You will also get hands-on experience on the lathe, learning and practicing the various shaping and finishing cuts to turn your own bowl from start to finish.

Cutting Boards with Alex Snodgrass
Beginner to Advanced

Tools Required: All Tools And Materials Will Be Supplied
Class Size: 8-10
Description: This is a great opportunity to make a 3D cutting board with the master himself, Alex Snodgrass! Using only three different woods-maple, cherry, and walnut, Alex will show each student how to make a 3D end grain cutting board. This hands-on class begins by teaching each student how to tune a bandsaw to make perfect cuts. Once learned, this skill will make future bandsaw use a breeze. The class will then progress through the techniques required to make the cutting board: how to make dead-on straight cuts on the bandsaw, how to make accurate angled cuts on the bandsaw, and how to plane, sand, glue, and clamp the cutting board. The processes learned here will also transfer over to into all other areas of your woodworking endeavors. Alex will also discuss the steps required to make two of his other 3D cutting boards: the Ball and the Four Leaf Clover cutting boards. By the end of the day, each student will have their own fantastic 3D cutting board to keep or gift! Topics covered include: bandsaw myths debunked, bandsaw mechanics, correct blade tension, making accurate cuts with the bandsaw, making accurate angled cuts with the bandsaw, gluing techniques, end grain planing, end grain pattern alignment, food safe finishes, care and maintenance of cutting boards.
