Scroll Saw Intro 101

In this course the student will learn to identify the different types of scroll saws and blades while gaining an understanding of which blade is used for which material. The student will also learn the basic operating principles of the scroll saw including changing blade tension, blade speed, and table angle. Learning proper safety including basic shop safety, personal safety, and safe procedures using the scroll saw will be stressed. This is a hands on class where the student will learn how to make different types of cuts and make some simple projects that can be taken home.

Scroll Saw: Compound Cutting CHESS Pieces

Saturday, January 4, 1 PM - 4 PM

This class will be a fun way to learn compound cutting while making some chess pieces. The class will begin with a demonstration of attaching patterns, selecting blades, making compound cuts with on the scroll saw and smoothing your cuts with a sanding star. Then Tim will help you practice attaching patterns and cutting out some chess pieces you can take home. While there will only be class time to cut out several chess pieces, you will leave with an understanding of thee process. PLUS you will get to keep the book of scroll saw chess set patterns that was used in the class. with these pattern, the knowledge and practice gained from this class you'll be able to make your own chess set at home

Turning a Small Lantern Ornament on the Lathe

In this hands on class each student will be shown how to turn a small lantern ornament and then each student will turn an ornament that they can take home. Students are encouraged, although not required, to bring their own tools for an easier transition of skills from class to your own shop.
