This introductory hands on class will begin with an overview of how the scroll saw functions & the variety of projects you can complete with a scroll saw. Students will be shown the different types of blades & learn when they should be used. Students will be shown how to attach patterns & practice attaching patterns. Tim will guide students through the beginning lessons of Fox Chapel Publishing's Scroll Saw Workbook, the same lessons that Tim followed to learn the scroll saw many years ago! At the end of the class you'll have the option to purchase this book. The lessons in this book build your skill as you make cuts to create scrollwork that you can take home! Our classroom has enough scroll saws to ensure there will be a dedicated scroll for each student to use during the class to maximize their time practicing scrolling. With a class size limited to 5 students you'll get direct instruction & all your questions answered! You'll learn lots of tips & tricks such as squaring the blade, proper blade tension, hand placement & speed selection. In this class you will be making a butterfly. First you will use the scroll saw to cut the wood into pieces & then you’ll use the Guinevere inflatable sanding system to give those pieces a life like appearance. When you are done sanding you’ll have the opportunity to dye the wood. Plus you’ll get to keep the book of intarsia skills & patterns that was used in this class. This book has 24 other projects in it! With the knowledge & practice gained from this class you’ll be ready to continue your intarsia journey making projects from this book at home! If you have limited scroll saw experience, consider taking "Scroll Saw Intro 101". The Art of Bowl Turning with the Lathe

This class can teach someone new to the lathe how to make a bowl and can help an intermediate student refine their skills. Topics that will be covered in class: proper tool rest set up, proper approach and angle for efficient cutting, differences between the three different cutters (rougher, finisher and detail), scraping, shear cutting and sharpening. Students will practice the cuts appropriate for shaping and smoothing the inside and outside using traditional tools. Students will turn a bowl in this class. At the end of the class students should be able to turn a bowl on their own.
