The most fundamental tool in a woodshop. Join Rob for an intimate, thorough workshop in free-hand sharpening and hand tool fundamentals. Rob will cover prepping a blade from grinding to honing, setting up your plane, throat adjustment, chip breaker setting, and when and how to resharpen. Students will also get hands on experience planing a wide board flat and smooth, squaring and straightening an edge, and shooting the end-grain to be straight and square. Rob recommends bringing a 5-1/2 or 5 Jack plane to get the most out of this workshop. Space is limited, so register early. Required Tools: Rob has developed a method for sharpening like no other. His techniques are proven to achieve a razor-sharp edge in minutes. Here are the tools Rob makes that you will want to have for the best chance of being successful at sharpening: his 1000/300 grit premium diamond stone, Shapton 16K glass stone, sharpening rule, Honerite lapping fluid, and Cosman wax stick. All these are available for purchase at the Orlando Woodcraft Store.

Through Dovetail Workshop with Rob Cosman

This workshop is one day of intensive hand cut, through dovetailing instruction and hands-on practice that will take your dovetailing skills to the next level. The workshop is a skills-based learning experience that focuses on mastering, hand-cut, through dovetails. Rob teaches his dovetail offset method and shares his tips and tricks using the tools he designed for making dovetails. The learning goals are that by the end of the workshop, you can layout, cut, and assemble directly from your saw cuts, perfect to near perfect through dovetails. Tuition covers all instruction, workbench, vise, lumber, glue, and lunch with Rob. Rob will be donating 100% of his fees to his Purple Heart Project. Required Tools. Rob has developed a method for cutting through dovetails like no other. In a one-day class, half or more of the students will produce a dovetail that will rival Robs! Sound "too good to be true"? Here are the tools Rob makes that you will want to have for the best chance of being a successful through dovetailer: his 22-15 TPI dovetail saw, marking knife with the .024" saw tooth blade, and a regular Shawn shim. In addition to the Rob Cosman tools, you need to bring a fret saw, 1:6 dovetail marker, 1/4 inch and 1/2 inch chisels, mallet, wheel style marking gauge, 6-inch square and a small pair of dividers. All of these tools are available for purchase at the Orlando Woodcraft store.
