Students will practice the cuts appropriate for shaping and smoothing the inside and outside using a bowl gouge, parting tool and a scraper. At the end of the class students will have turned a bowl on their own!
Welcome to the exciting world of pen turning! This class is made for all ages eight and up. Featuring easy-to-use Hunter carbide lathe tools, students will create their very own beautiful, functional and personalized pen. Learn the fundamentals of creating a pen, including proper lathe techniques and finishing.
This class will focus on the tools and techniques of turning a bowl with an undercut rim. We will turn bowls from blanks and undercut the rims using a variety of hollowing tools, including easy-to-use Hunter Carbide lathe tools. Materials and tools are included. Must have safety glasses. A face shield is preferred. Students may bring their own bowl turning blanks and sharp bowl turning tools if they prefer. Blanks must be between 6” to 8” in diameter and at least 3” -4” deep. Students must have taken the Introduction to the Lathe & Turning class and a bowl turning class prior to taking this class. If you have other turning experience but have not taken these prior classes you can speak with the instructor before enrolling. Those without the necessary prior experience and the level of skill needed will not be allowed to use a lathe during the class and refunds will not be given.
