Fine Furniture Making 102: End Table

Our Fine Furniture Series is designed to help students gain confidence in their ability to create beautiful pieces of furniture that will last for generations. While the series does incorporate power tools, it focuses on developing hand tool skills, to include sharpening and using smoothing planes, bench chisels, and card scrapers. In this particular session, students will spend four days honing their skills by building an heirloom quality end table featuring traditional joinery techniques like double tusk tenon, half-lap dovetail, and half-blind dovetails. Students will also receive hands-on practice with making and applying banding, inlay, and cockbead molding. With a smaller class size, students can be confident they will receive personalized instruction as they tackle the project and create their masterpiece. OPTIONAL UPGRADE: Students can upgrade their primary wood to Walnut for an additional $100.

Spindle Turning 101: The Basics

Friday, December 12, 2025, 10 AM - 5 PM

Spindle turning involves turning a piece of wood on its center axis, and is used to create long, thin objects like table legs, baseball bats, pens, wands, and handles for a variety of tools and utensils. This class is intended to take a beginner through the basics of this type of turning, and while there is some overlap with the lathe terminology and safety covered in our Bowl Turning 101, there are a lot of new techniques introduced in this session! Students will develop their turning skills as they discuss and practice a variety of different cuts including roughing, beads, coves, and pommels. A portion of the class will also be devoted to improving sharpening skills and understanding the proper use of additional turning chisels and gouges. Students will receive excellent hands-on instruction as they complete a spindle project, like a mallet or wand.

Date Night: Pair of Turned Pens

Our Date Night at the Wood Shop series is designed to give couples a chance to spend an evening together making a fun project and lasting memories! All of these sessions are priced per couple, so you only need to register for one spot. In this particular session, couples will turn a pair of wooden pens (each person will turn one pen).
