Fine Furniture 102: End Table

Our Fine Furniture Series is designed to help students gain confidence in their ability to create beautiful pieces of furniture that will last for generations. While the series does incorporate power tools, it focuses on developing hand tool skills, to include sharpening and using smoothing planes, bench chisels, and card scrapers. In this particular session, students will spend four days honing their skills by building an heirloom quality end table featuring traditional joinery techniques like double tusk tenon, half-lap dovetail, and half-blind dovetails. Students will also receive hands-on practice with making and applying banding, inlay, and cockbead molding. With a smaller class size, students can be confident they will receive personalized instruction as they tackle the project and create their masterpiece. NOTE: To get the most out this class, we recommend that students take a Handcut Dovetails class and that they bring their own chisels and bench planes (we'll have all of the required tools available to use for those who need them).OPTIONAL UPGRADE: Students can upgrade their primary wood to Walnut for an additional $100

Router Basics

The router is one of the more versatile tools in the wood shop, but it can be very intimidating to a beginner. Take this workshop to learn more about selecting routers, using them safely, choosing the proper bits, and increasing the router's versatility by mounting it to a table and utilizing various jigs and accessories.

Pen Turning 101

Thursday, August 6, 2026, 6 PM - 9 PM

In the first part of our pen-turning series, students will learn the basic parts and terminology of the lathe after a discussion of safety. They will be shown how to prepare a pen blank (small piece of wood) for turning. Next, they will turn a pen under the watchful eyes of our instructors. After applying a finish, each student will leave with a completed pen that he/she can show to friends and family. CAUTION: Pen Turning can be VERY addictive!
