In this class the students will learn the basic knowledge on hand tools. (workbenches, square, sliding bevel, chisel, plane, mallet. handsaw, marking gauge, sanding blocks, marking knife, card scrapers, rulers and measuring tape) They will leave this class with having better safety for each tool used. Kids must be 7 or older. Must be accompanied by parent, or teacher with signed off waiver from parent. We also will have a field trip setting through the store to show the different tools offered.

Learn with Chuck Engstrom - professional turner -how to prepare and mount a blank, size a tenon, chuck mounting, rough vs. finishing cuts with a "fingernail" bowl gouge. Then, reverse mounting, hollowing with gouges and scrapers and tricks for finishing the base. With Chuck's guidance you'll soon be turning out elegant bowls. After lunch, you will have an opportunity to apply the basics covered in the morning session and enhance your skills. Learn even more techniques for added control with the versatile bowl gouge. You practice hollowing methods needed when forming an inward turned rim.
