Learn how to make an antique peppermill with a lathe turned wooden blank and a peppermill kit. Randy will instruct you on the complete process from wood selection to the final finish. After completing this class you will take home a completed peppermill to show off. Soon you will be designing and making these works of functional art for family and friends.
Joinery is at the heart of fine woodworking, ensuring strong, lasting, and visually appealing furniture. This full-day, hands-on workshop introduces students to the fundamental woodworking joints, blending both traditional hand-tool techniques and modern power-tool methods. Students will learn how to cut and assemble dovetails, mortise and tenon joints, box joints, lap joints, and dadoes—all essential for furniture making. We will explore proper joint selection, marking and measuring techniques, cutting methods, and best practices for accuracy and strength. By the end of the day, students will have hands-on experience in crafting precise joinery and gain confidence in their woodworking skills
Dovetail joinery is one of the most iconic and respected techniques in fine woodworking, valued for both its strength and timeless beauty. This full-day, hands-on workshop is dedicated to mastering handcut dovetails, with a focus on both through dovetails and half-blind dovetails. Students will learn the essential skills behind accurate layout, marking, sawing, and chiseling, along with techniques to achieve clean, tight-fitting joints. We’ll cover tool selection, grain awareness, and step-by-step methods to build confidence working by hand. Throughout the day, students will practice each stage of the process and complete sample joints they can take home as a reference for future projects. By the end of the class, students will have a solid foundation in handcut dovetail joinery and the confidence to incorporate it into their own woodworking projects.
