This class will go over the tools and techniques to turn a lidded box with a fit lid. With just a few tools and a small amount of almost any hardwood, burl, or exotic wood, we will make a beautiful gift, or craft show item. We will go over chucking methods and techniques to create your design, end grain hollowing, and sanding and applying sanding sealer, and friction finish or poly. Each Student will take home a box to show off to their friends and family. Some woodturning experience is preferred.

In this demonstration Nick will go over wood selection, including the harvesting of green wood for this project. He will go over safe chucking methods and preferred tools to turn the mill. He will discuss and demonstrate the drill bits size and depth of each step required to install the mechanism and the process I use for installing them and finishing the mills.

Stair Step 3D Cutting Board Class

This is a great opportunity to create your own stunning 3D Stair Step Cutting Board with the master himself, Alex Snodgrass. Using only three different woods – maple, cherry, and walnut – Alex will show each student how to make a 3D Stair Step Cutting Board that will really impress your family and friends. During the class, Alex will answer all of your questions about bandsaws, while covering basic topics such as bandsaw mechanics, tuning a bandsaw, and making perfect straight or angled cuts. Alex will also cover topics including glue-up techniques, how to plane and will debunk some common bandsaw myths.

By the end of the class, each student will have a fantastic 3D Stair Step Cutting Board made with their own hands! This class is designed for woodworkers of all skill levels. I will cover how to lay out the timber for the best yield, proper chainsaw safety and approach to cutting blanks. After a live demonstration, we bring in the blanks for rough turning. We will cover the drying process, and finally the Re-turning, sanding and finishing of projects.

In this class we will cover basic lathe safety, including all part of the lathe and the operation of them. We will discuss the different types of turning tools and ideas about the best way to sharpen them. We cover chucking methods including, 4-jaw chucks, faceplates, screw drives and many others. We will talk about the advantages and disadvantages of each method. We will talk about understanding grain direction and how it affects your turning. We cover the best ways to sand projects on the lathe and what finishes can be applied on the lathe. After a demonstration of a spindle, and a face turning, there will be hands on so that students can create their own projects.
