Router Basics

HANDS-ON. We have a great class that will teach all the ins-and-outs of how to use your Router. Both Router table work and hand-held Router work will be covered. Students will get hands-on experience and build a small storage box during this informative class. You will learn different techniques of cut, fence and miter gauge work, Router bit selection and basic Router safety. Cutting dados, rabbets, slots, mitered corners and edge trim will be easy. Hand Tool Basics & Sharpening

Part 1: Monday, June 1, 2026, 6 PM - 10 PM

Part 2: Tuesday, June 2, 2026, 6 PM - 10 PM

HANDS-ON. Chisels, scrapers, planes and saws are the most fundamental woodworking tools in the shop. Howard will provide hands-on instruction on how to sharpen, adjust and use each of these great tools. Students will practice "old world" basic exercises with each tool. Tool #1: Learn basic chisel techniques and how to cut a mortise for a hinge faster than any machine takes to set up. Tool #2: Learn how to use a cabinet scraper as a step toward applying a fine finish. Tool #3: Learn how great using a hand plane can be. Plane an edge straight, flatten a board and cut chamfers with ease. Tool #4: Sharpen and reset your dovetail saw so it cuts perfectly. Learn simple exercises that will give you great confidence with your saw. This is a wonderful hands-on class that anyone interested in hand tools will enjoy. Bring your own tools or buy new ones and leave this class knowing how to correctly use them on your next project. Please bring your own tools: 3/8" or 1/2" Chisel, Cabinet Scraper (Card Scraper), Hand Plane (#3 or #4 or #5) or any type of Block Plane and a Dovetail type Saw. NOTE: THIS IS NOT A RESTORATION CLASS. Tools Need To Be In Working Order. Please No Old Or Rusted Hand Tools That Could Need A Lot Of Work. Hand Cut Dovetails

Part 1: Wednesday, June 3, 2026, 6 PM - 10 PM

Part 2: Thursday, June 4, 2026, 6 PM - 10 PM

HANDS-ON. The dovetail joint stands as the symbol of hand tool craftsmanship and for many is regarded as the most challenging test of their skills. Students will learn simple exercises that will give them great confidence with basic hand tools. Howard will provide personal attention and hands-on practice for everyone to learn the layout, sawing, chiseling and assembling of the joint. Both full and half blind dovetails will be covered and each student will receive a set of complete notes. Please bring your own tools: Marking Gauge, 6" Or 12" Ruler, Small Or Medium Try-Square, Sliding Bevel, Dovetail Saw, Bench Chisels (1/4", 3/8", 1/2") and a Bench Or Carvers Mallet.
