Sunday, May 31, 2026, 10 AM - 4 PM

In this class, we will cover sharpening and tuning techniques to bring the most out of your chisel, hand plane and scraper. We will discuss the best use of each tool and the best way to put and keep an edge on your tools. The class will cover sharpening, tuning, and hand tool selection while using water stones, honing guides and strops. If you have any bench chisels, hand planes, and scrapers that need to be sharpened, please bring them in for class. If not, we have plenty at the shop to practice on. There is also an optional Woodworkers Club waterstone sharpening kit for purchase: Contents of kit if purchased separately: $357.00 Exclusive student kit price: $299.00 ( a savings of $58.00 ) The WWC waterstone kit features 3 Shapton synthetic grit waterstones: a 1 K, 5K and 8K . Unlike traditional waterstones, synthetic stones do not require soaking prior to use or a Nagura stone to build a slurry; instead, the surface simply needs to be kept wet to help float away metal and abrasive particles. This feature results in harder, more durable stones that last longer. The kit also includes a Sharpal Diamond Lapping Plate for keeping your newly acquired waterstones flat. Lastly, a Wood River Deluxe Honing Guide is included to assist in registering the proper angles needed for chisel and iron honing. Kit + Tuition = $484.00 Have your own supplies you plan to bring? Bandsaw Box 101

with Les Henig

Part 1: Monday, June 1, 2026, 6 PM - 9 PM

Part 2: Tuesday, June 2, 2026, 6 PM - 9 PM

The band saw is one of the most useful tools in the woodshop and has become the shop standard for making curved and other irregular cuts. Learn the ins and outs of this most useful tool by way of a simple project. From a solid block of cherry, we’ll create a shaped box with two drawers. First we’ll cut the outside shape of the box. Then the back will be sliced off as a thin strip. Next, the drawer shapes will be cut from the block. Each of those drawers, in turn, will have both the front and back sliced off. Following that, drawer cavities will be cut. Finally all of the parts will be glued back together and sanded. As a final step, if time permits, a finish coat of oil can be applied.
