Instructions / MSDS
I was not sure how to turn this even with finding instructions online at woodcraft so I found a good video on YouTube which was very helpful. Take your time because each end is pretty thin. Otherwise it was a great and fun project to turn and immediately friends were wanting to buy it. I will be turning more if these.
Pump N Grind mechanism.
Just received the last of my two dozen mechanism I order for the $12.99 ea since I have a dozen sets to make from the article in a Woodsmith magazine. I make them from Walnut and Maple woods. After I get them turned I inlaid Turquoise stone in the walnut and really makes them pop. Have all ready made about a dozen sets and now my family wants a set. I donated two sets, one set without inlaid Turquoise and the other with Turquoise. The sets were sold at an action for a fund raiser and the sets brought $72 and $95 for the cause. Had been selling them for about $ 60/$65 for the inlaid set. Wish there was a jam plug you could by like the ones sold on Woodcraft for the Pump and Grind mechanisms.
I turned this project more than a year ago. My wife loves it. It has been used daily on our dinner table. The kit is excellent, but requires accurate turning. Please be patient, and make sure you hit the marks. The tolerances are necessary for a successful project. I will buy again, and have requests for an four sets right now. 😁
I am a beginner wood turner and I had a great time working on this project! Very elegant kit and the pepper grind although not adjustable is a perfect medium grind. Most people who see it love it and want to play with it. It is true that it will test your turning skills because you do have to turn it relatively thin. Once the mechanism is glued in the metal pieces reinforce the wood making it strong and durable. I did blow out a piece of mesquite I was turning however, I was able to glue it back together, finish turning, and assemble with no problem. It's fun to try and get people to find where it broke. They can't. I love this product.
I bought, then returned this item because it came with no instructions. I see there are instructions online at Woodcraft's site on the item screen.
Pretty Easy, but take you time
The mechanism is well built and the finished product is very nice. Square you rough stock well to limit wobble. Boring must be true or the mechanism rod will bind after final assembly. Relieve some wood inside the hole you designate for the grind end. The fit is tight and will (sadly) split your work.
The margins on each end of the turning are paper thin; you have to have perfectly aligned jam chucks and soft touch to not blow out the turning. Push button mechanism didn't retract on its on.
"I would buy this product again and agai
This push button pepper grinder is easy to use and constructed well.
