Minimum Age 18. This class builds on the foundations established in our Fundamentals class taking your woodworking skills to the next level. With the aid of major power tools and the Leigh jig, you will build a dovetailed blanket chest with lifting top and decorative feet. Joinery, wood preparation and lamination are a key focus. This is an intermediate level class requiring completion of "Fundamentals of Woodworking" as a prerequisite. Stop in to see examples of your finished product.

Intro To CNC

Monday, September 16, 5:30 PM - 8:30 PM

Have you ever wondered if CNC could be a useful tool to add to your shop? Are you curious about the process of operating this type of equipment? This class is for you! In this introductory CNC class we will explore the basic workflow and operation of CNC routers. This includes a step by step demonstration of the process. We will explain how to move from idea into design software, creating toolpaths, and finally to cutting simple parts on the machine. The class is focused on the basics of CNC and will provide an introduction to tooling, speeds and feeds, work holding, cutting strategies and beginner level design software. This also includes an overview of machine anatomy, function and features, as well as an open class curriculum style that encourages any and all questions. We will be focusing primarily on Vectric software and be running a Next Wave Shark CNC router for demonstration, but the concepts will translate well to any other machine.

Basic Box Building

Tuesday, September 17, 5:30 PM - 9 PM

Minimum Age 18. Small boxes have a wide variety of uses and make excellent gifts. They can be carved, accented with inlay or highly figured woods and decoratively changed with the router. In this class you will make a box using mitered joints and spline construction.

Porter Cable Dovetail Jig

Wednesday, September 18, 5:30 PM - 9 PM

Minimum Age 18. This class is for those who wish to enhance their projects with professional looking dovetail joints. Students will use the Porter Cable 12" dovetail jig while making all four joints: through, half-blind, box and sliding. Jig set up and adjustment as well as when the different joints are applied will be thoroughly covered.

Date Night At Woodcraft

Friday, September 20, 5:30 PM - 8 PM

Minimum Age 18. Do you and your significant other want to learn basic wood working skills and have fun creating a one of a kind project together? We will provide the food, soft drinks, and materials. You only need to show up and be ready to make some saw dust. Projects will vary from month to month and will consist of small projects such as pens, bottle stoppers/openers, pepper grinders, etc.

Beginning Lathe Turning

Saturday, September 21, 9:30 AM - 4:30 PM

Learn the basics of woodturning on the lathe, through instruction with Hunter Tolley. He will cover safety issues, tool sharpening, sanding and mounting stock. You will gain knowledge through hands-on practice turning spindles and bowls.

Jess Crow - Ultimate Epoxy Experience

Part 1: Monday, September 23, 9 AM - 1 PM

Part 2: Tuesday, September 24, 4 PM - 8 PM

Students who register for this 2-day class will receive 8+ hours of in depth instruction from Jess Crow, one of the nation's leading epoxy artistic woodworking innovators. Topics covered include using molds, making molds, mixing colorants and resin, conducting deep pours, de-molding projects, sanding, and applying a final epoxy finish. In addition to the extra time spent with Jess in a smaller class setting, all students will have the option to purchase their reusable resin molds for an additional $75 to take home and use for future projects ($259.99 value)! Students will be working on two projects throughout this class. One will be a multi-layered pour that’s worked on over the two days. The second project, creating a live edge tray, will be done the first day of class and demolded the second day (weather and temperature permitting.) Students will be using TotalBoat ThickSet and TotalBoat MakerPoxy for these projects. Wear closed-toe shoes and comfortable work clothing with no excessive fabric or loose jewelry. Students who are sensitive to smells should also bring a mask or respirator. You may want to bring paper and pencil to take notes.

Jess Crow - Ocean Wave Charcuterie Board

Jess Crow, one of the nation's leading epoxy artistic woodworking innovators will guide through making a statement piece for your home or as a gift! In this class, you'll start with a practice board to get a feel for creating cells within epoxy then you'll advance into making your own board. Techniques covered included mixing colors and how not to mix colors.

Jess Crow - River Style Round

Jess Crow, one of the nation's leading epoxy artistic woodworking innovators, will guide students through creating a river style round when finished can be used as a clock, serving tray, lazy susan and more. Jess will guide students through the river style process, including how to prepare a live edge slab, how to save both wood and epoxy by using her "more is less" method, adding custom colors and designs, selecting and pouring the proper resin, and so much more! Students will have the option to add either handles or feet to their boards when the projects are picked up.

Build A Toy Chest

Minimum Age 18. Spend the day with Bert Elchinger building a toy chest from scratch. This class requires some woodworking experience using power tools.

Router Magic

Saturday, September 28, 9 AM - 5 PM

Minimum Age 18. Spend an entire day with the router, learning exactly what this versatile tool can do. This will be a very hands-on experience and will cover many router topics including creating inlays, template work (i.e.: liquid catch groove on a cutting board), using an edge guide, tongue and groove, and combining bits to create decorative moldings and accents.

Turn A Lidded Box

Sunday, September 29, 1 PM - 4:30 PM

Lidded boxes are small "Treasure Chests" that can be made in many shapes and sizes on a lathe. In this class, Clark breaks lidded box building down to the simplest and fastest method to complete the project. By sticking to the basics and the easiest ways, students will go home with a finished lidded box at the end of this session.

Finishing

Wednesday, October 2, 5:30 PM - 9 PM

Finishing can make or break your project. Spend the evening with Brian as he unravels the mysteries of completing your project. This class will include surface preparation and a variety of finishes, including oil and water based materials, shellac and varnish.

The Art of Bandsaw Boxes

Alex Snodgrass 3D Stair Step Cutting Board

This is a great opportunity to create your own stunning 3D Stair Step Cutting Board with the master himself, Alex Snodgrass. Using only three different woods – maple, cherry, and walnut – Alex will show each student how to make a 3D Stair Step Cutting Board that will really impress your family and friends. During the class, Alex will answer all of your questions about bandsaws, while covering basic topics such as bandsaw mechanics, tuning a bandsaw, and making perfect straight or angled cuts. Introduction To Pyrography

Minimum age 16. This class provides an introduction to wood pyrography, the art form of decorating wood by burning a design on the surface with a wood burning tool using stencils or freehand designs. We provide the tools and wood for this class.

Sharpening Basics

This class will show how you can sharpen your shop tools using various methods including Tormek, water stones and oil stones. Please bring two dull tools to the class and they will leave with a razor sharp edge.

Upper Cabinet Construction

Saturday, October 12, 9 AM - 5 PM

Minimum Age 18. This class will take the mystery out of building upper cabinets. It will include design, face frame versus frameless construction and doors. During the class, students will collectively make one upper cabinet from scratch.

Hand Cut Dovetails

Sunday, October 13, 1 PM - 4:30 PM

Minimum Age 18. Students will learn to lay out and hand cut through and half blind dovetails. At the end of this class, you will be able to plan your projects around the pinnacle of woodworking joints...the dovetail. Tuition includes a new, personal chisel for each student.

Acrylic Wall Street Pen

Add more shine and color to your pens with acrylics. This class will teach you the proper method of preparing, turning and finishing this wonderful material while making your own Wall Street pen.

Lumber Milling And Prep

Tuesday, October 15, 5:30 PM - 8:30 PM

Minimum Age 18. Learn the steps of dressing rough lumber into finished stock for final project use. This hands on class will address cupped, warped and bent stock, controlling snipe, tapering boards when desired and the differences between helical and straight knife cutter heads.

Cutting Boards 2.0

Minimum Age 18. In this class you'll take cutting boards to the next level. We'll create an end-grain board with both juice grooves and routed hand holds. We'll also demonstrate how to create a custom juice groove jig for making cutting boards in your own shop!

Bowl Turning: Mastering The Bowl Gouge

Saturday, October 19, 9 AM - 1 PM

Minimum Age 18. If you want to learn how to turn bowls on the lathe, this class is for you. Ray will focus on the fingernail bowl gouge as the primary tool and will teach you how to complete your piece with a perfect bottom. He will also explain the various methods for mounting your blank on the lathe and discuss wall thickness, design and turning speed.

Cutting Boards

Learn to make a cutting board using various species of wood and machines. You will use the miter saw, jointer, planer, table saw, and orbital sander. Sizes vary, but they are always beautiful!

Halloween Carving

Intro to Shaper Origin

Monday, October 21, 5:30 PM - 8:30 PM

A great introduction to the Shaper Origin and its capabilities. Whether you are a new user or wondering if this is the right tool for your shop, this class will explore the basic workflow and operation of the Shaper. We’ll cover the basics of the machine itself from scan and design to cut. There will be an opportunity for each student to make a cut on the Shaper. Come and experience the many things you can do with this machine. Previous router experience required.

Knife Making

Minimum Age 16 with Parent. From hunting and camping to preparing a simple meal, a good knife is indispensable. Learn the ins and outs of making your own knife handles. Tuition includes all supplies needed to create your own knife. Stan will cover sizing, shaping, fastening, finishing and polishing. You'll walk out of class with a sharp treasure!

Woodworking Fundamentals

Part 1: Saturday, October 26, 9 AM - 6 PM

Minimum age 18. Each student will make a Shaker style table using the table saw, planer, jointer and router. Safety issues for each of these tools and others will be covered. Students will receive a good foundation for future woodworking endeavors by making a piece of furniture they will be proud to have completed. This is our most popular class - reserve your spot early.
