Have you ever wondered if CNC could be a useful tool to add to your shop? Are you curious about the process of operating this type of equipment? This class is for you! In this introductory CNC class we will explore the basic workflow and operation of CNC routers. This includes a step by step demonstration of the process. We will explain how to move from idea into design software, creating toolpaths, and finally to cutting simple parts on the machine. The class is focused on the basics of CNC and will provide an introduction to tooling, speeds and feeds, work holding, cutting strategies and beginner level design software. This also includes an overview of machine anatomy, function and features, as well as an open class curriculum style that encourages any and all questions. We will be focusing primarily on Vectric software and be running a Next Wave Shark CNC router for demonstration, but the concepts will translate well to any other machine.

Students who register for this 2-day class will receive 8+ hours of in depth instruction from Jess Crow, one of the nation's leading epoxy artistic woodworking innovators. Topics covered include using molds, making molds, mixing colorants and resin, conducting deep pours, de-molding projects, sanding, and applying a final epoxy finish. In addition to the extra time spent with Jess in a smaller class setting, all students will have the option to purchase their reusable resin molds for an additional $75 to take home and use for future projects ($259.99 value)! Students will be working on two projects throughout this class. One will be a multi-layered pour that’s worked on over the two days. The second project, creating a live edge tray, will be done the first day of class and demolded the second day (weather and temperature permitting.) Students will be using TotalBoat ThickSet and TotalBoat MakerPoxy for these projects. Wear closed-toe shoes and comfortable work clothing with no excessive fabric or loose jewelry. Students who are sensitive to smells should also bring a mask or respirator. You may want to bring paper and pencil to take notes.
