In this class, Turning expert Chip Siskey will focus on safe lathe operation with discussion of lathes, drive centers, chucks, and other available accessories. We will discuss woodturning tools you may already have or have run across, and those available comparing the usefulness and quality of the metals. Our focus will turn to the seven basic tool where we will discuss when and how to use each one. We will finish with some hands on experience to ensure you grasp the proper tool presentation and use for each of these tools. There are so many tools available, the class will help you to select the correct tools for the projects you wish to complete. If you have tools, bring them but they are not necessary.

Eric begins the class with a brief overview of the equipment, covering safety tips and techniques for using the Foredom tool to carve with precision. He then guides students step-by-step through shaping and detailing their wooden tree, offering personalized instruction tailored to each individual’s experience. From roughing out the initial shape to adding fine details like texture and branches, everyone will gain confidence in using the versatile Kutzall burrs to sculpt and refine their designs. At the end of the session, each participant will leave with a unique, handmade Christmas tree to proudly display for the holidays.
