Hand Plane - Basics

The current trend towards hand tool usage most certainly would include Hand Planes. Our instructor has a very keen interest in hand planes and would love to pass his enthusiasm and knowledge along. They will show you how to disassemble, clean, tune-up, sharpen, reassemble, adjust and properly use your hand plane. If you would like to get more use out of a hand plane that's been just sitting in your shop, then this is the class for you. If you own one hand plane that could use some TLC bring it to class and you can follow along. Each student is responsible for supplying their own eye protection, pen and/or pencil, note pad, closed toe shoes, and one hand plane.

One of the newest and most "eye-popping" trends in woodworking is the incorporation of epoxies and urethanes. Join us for a two-day journey into this exciting facet of woodworking. You'll be introduced to different types of epoxies, colored dyes, tints and the various types of powders used to create eye catching effects. Some of the topics covered will be, how to choose the correct type of epoxy and mold preparation that leads to a successful project. Each student is responsible for supplying their own notebook, pencil, filter mask / respirator, gloves and closed toe shoes.

Woodturning: A Live Edge Bowl

This is one of our more advanced bowl turning classes. We will discuss, in detail, how to harvest your own wood along with best practices in logging, storing and understanding where the bowl and platter blanks are in the log. You will learn advanced tool techniques, how to keep the bark on the blank using CA adhesives, elements of design, form and function and different bowl mounting techniques. You will also learn how to keeping the wings of the bowl the same thickness and how to keep the wings aligned with each other. Each student is responsible for supplying their own eye protection, dust mask, face shield, notebook, 1/2in and 3/8in bowl gouge, round scraper, parting tool.
