Introducing Norton's premier system for sharpening woodworking tools, knives, cutlery and other blades. Their synthetic waterstones can produce a surface that is almost unbelievably bright and chrome-like while putting a legendary edge on cutting tools. Coarser grit stones are used to remove nicks and for first step sharpening of badly dulled tools. Mid-range grits, 1000 and 4000 take that shaped edge to a very sharp edge. 8000 grit is the finishing stone that brings your final cutting edge up and completely removes scratches from the surface. Care must be used to keep from moving coarser grits onto the surface of finer stones, so each tool must be carefully wiped down before it is moved up a step in the sharpening process. Prior to use, stones should be immersed in water for 10 minutes and kept wet during sharpening. 8000 grit polishing stone needs only a splash of water on the surface to cut properly. Stones quickly expose a fresh cutting surface for use, which over time creates a sort of dish effect. Stones may need flattening with some frequency. Combination Stones provide double the double grit and reduce the cost of getting started with waterstones, while providing a full selection of grits.
Features:

  • Synthetic waterstones
  • Stones quickly expose a fresh cutting surface for use
  • Stones may need flattening with some frequency.

    Great stone but not flat.

I bought this combination stone after viewing videos and reading books on sharpening plane irons and wood chisels. It did work as advertised once I got both sides flat, but that took several hours of work on a granite plate with 80 and 100 grit wet-or-dry sandpaper. I almost gave up and returned it, but I really wanted it to work and do what I wanted to sharpen my plane irons. The stone was shaped like a pillow, down at all four corners and all four edges, with a bulge in the center of both sides. But when it was flat, it worked fine.

Norton Water Stone is a Good Product

You should construct a stone holding gig to meet your specific needs -- like quick measurement of the blade extension beyond the honing guide to achieve the desired honing angles...saves time and stop and go frustration!

    Nice stone - great price

I purchased this waterstone to use in sharpening straight razors. I'm sure it will also be handy on chisels, plane blades, etc... Make sure you have some way to keep it flat such as by using wet sandpaper on granite tile or the like. Nice buy, great price.
