Learn with Chuck Engstrom - professional turner -how to prepare and mount a blank, size a tenon, chuck mounting, rough vs. finishing cuts with a "fingernail" bowl gouge. Then, reverse mounting, hollowing with gouges and scrapers and tricks for finishing the base. With Chuck's guidance you'll soon be turning out elegant bowls.
Here's your opportunity to apply the basics covered in the morning session and enhance your skills. Learn even more techniques for added control with the versatile bowl gouge. You practice hollowing methods needed when forming an inward turned rim.
This class will discuss the fundamental aspects of sharpening traditional steel turning tools on a bench grinder. It will include choice of grinder and grinder wheels, set up of the Wolverine grinding jig and how it can bge configured for sharpening the many various sharpening tools. We will also discuss freehand grinding and some other grinding systems.
