Instruction covers setup, cutting techniques and safe shaping methods while Alex guides participants step by step and answers questions throughout the process. He also reveals the secrets behind his signature designs, including magnetic boxes, push button boxes, the gravity pin box and an articulated snake. Additionally, participants will receive exclusive access to a private video showcasing the completed projects, extending the learning beyond the classroom. Introduction to the Wood Lathe

This class is for the brand new woodturner and those for whom any association with the lathe may have been many years ago. It is also for those who have recently acquired a lathe or those who are anticipating purchasing one. We will introduce you to the basics of woodturning, the medium we use (wood), some of the things you can do on the lathe, which lathe might be best for you, and how to use it safely. You will be told about all of those other things you will need but nobody told you about - tools, grinders, chucks, drills, sandpaper, finishes, etc. Some of these (turning tools for instance) are a necessity, while others are desirable options. We will cover some basic sharpening techniques using a roughing gouge for our demonstration. Time permitting and how well you grasp a few basic tool techniques, you will be guided through making a simple project that you can take home and use. (All materials are included) (CLS311)
