This class is designed for beginning woodworkers or those who have been away from their hobby for some time.
This class is designed to take a intermediate woodworker through the steps to make a steel string acoustic guitar from a unique kit. This is an intensive class, that requires periods of strength and stamina.
In this class, we will cover sharpening and tuning techniques to bring the most out of your chisel, hand plane and scraper. We will discuss the best use of each tool and the best way to put and keep an edge on your tools. The class will cover sharpening, tuning, and hand tool selection while using water stones, honing guides and strops. If you have any bench chisels, hand planes, and scrapers that need to be sharpened, please bring them in for class. If not, we have plenty at the shop to practice on. There is also an optional Woodworkers Club waterstone sharpening kit for purchase: Contents of kit if purchased separately: $357.00 Exclusive student kit price: $299.00 ( a savings of $58.00 ) The WWC waterstone kit features 3 Shapton synthetic grit waterstones: a 1 K, 5K and 8K . Unlike traditional waterstones, synthetic stones do not require soaking prior to use or a Nagura stone to build a slurry; instead, the surface simply needs to be kept wet to help float away metal and abrasive particles. This feature results in harder, more durable stones that last longer. The kit also includes a Sharpal Diamond Lapping Plate for keeping your newly acquired waterstones flat. Turn for Troops is a national initiative started by Woodcraft in 2004 to bolster the spirit of active duty and rehabilitating United States military service members. Woodcraft of Rockville with the Montgomery County Turners will host a turning event on Saturday and Sunday, November 8 & 9, to assist volunteers in handcrafting wooden writing pens. The gift of a unique wooden pen sends a message of appreciation, love, and support to both active duty service members and those in hospitals or rehabilitation centers. Turned pens are packaged and sent around the globe, with cards and information about how the pens were made. What a way to give back and make a difference. Simply put, anyone can turn a pen during the Turn for Troops event. There is NO experience necessary to volunteer. The Montgomery County Wood turners will be here to assist you in the process of turning a pen. There is also NO cost involved. Donate your time, and Woodcraft will provide all tools, supplies, equipment, and safety gear you will need. Just drop in at Woodcraft of Rockville on Saturday, November 8 from 10 am – 5 pm or Sunday, November 9 from 10 am – 4 pm.
