With little or no lathe experience, you can make your very own beautiful pen in 3 hours. Resident expert Alex Birkett has taught hundreds of students the art of pen-making in just one evening class. Your very own pen makes a great gift for almost any occasion. And the great part is, once you've made one, you can virtually make any style you wish. Without a doubt, this is our most popular class.
NEW CLASS: - This class taught by longtime carver Duff Greenwood will review wood & tool selection, the basic four carving cuts, proper techniques, safety and how to carve a WOODEN SPOON. Written outline, instructions and plans will be included. There is a material cost of $10.00___ for the basswood carving blank. Students need to bring a sharp carving knife with a blade of 1” to 1-1/4” and a sharp palm gouge ¼” to 3/8” wide or purchase these at the store. Another great class for beginning carvers.
ONE OF OUR MOST POPULAR CLASSES – This class incorporates spindle turning techniques with some end grain hollowing. Our turning expert, Chip Siskey, will focus on proper cutting tool presentation to help you develop your spindle turning abilities, as well as, the chuck mounting techniques necessary when challenged with working on a piece that protrudes a few inches from the chuck. The resulting decorative thin stemmed goblet can be displayed or makes traditional wedding gift when embellished with captive rings.
