For new turners or anyone wanting hands-on coaching using and sharpening spindle turning tools (roughing and spindle gouges, and parting tool). Practice forming beads, coves and combined shapes to make your own candlestick or bud vase.
Build on the morning session with more advanced spindle turning, including how to use a skew gouge. Then, dive deeper, using the spindle gouge for end grain hollowing...and make a cool Goblet to toast your success.

This class will discuss the fundamental aspects of sharpening traditional steel turning tools on a bench grinder. It will include choice of grinder and grinder wheels, set up of the Wolverine grinding jig and how it can bge configured for sharpening the many various sharpening tools. We will also discuss freehand grinding and some other grinding systems.

This is a great opportunity to make a 3D or pattern cutting board. Utilizing different woods students will learn how to make a stunning end-grain cutting boards. Students will learn techniques required to build a cutting board: how to make dead-on straight cuts and accurate angled cuts on the bandsaw or table saw, and how to plane, sand, glue, and clamp the cutting board. Topics to be covered will include proper tool use and daily maintenance, correct blade tension or selection, accurate angle cuts, gluing techniques, end-grain planing, end-grain pattern alignment, food-safe finishes, and care and maintenance of cutting boards.

In this 3-day course, the kids will learn safety and prepping materials for projects on the first day. The second day, they will be making a bird/bat house. On the final day, they will be making a tool box and get to personalize the box with use of our Xtool. They will become familiar to the hand tools required for our class. Parent or Guardian must be present during the classes. The tuition for the shop is including all 3 dates. This workshop is designed for kids entering Kindergarten to entering 5th grader.
