You will begin with learning the difference in carving and whittling, basic safely and how to sharpen your knives and keep them in great shape. From there you will get the chance to explore the woods carvers use along with 5 different cuts and techniques ending with a quick course on extra carving tools. You'll have so much fun that before you know it, you'll have your hand-carved piece to take home!
With endless possibilities, your biggest challenge will be deciding what you can do next with your scroll saw. This tool opens up the worlds of possibility! Learn blade selection, tensioning, and the pros and cons of fixed speed versus various speed saws while making several take-home projects.
Want to learn to make your very own custom picture frame. We will teach you to craft your very own personal 8" x 10" picture frame using only a table saw. You will learn how to select grain pattern, fabricate frame components, cut miter joints, complete sanding and glue up, and installing framing hardware. You will complete your own frame in-class and will also discuss how to mount and matte photographs or artwork as well as different frame finishes.

This class teaches lathe safety, proper body mechanics and the use of basic tool techniques to produce two of the most commonly found shapes: beads and coves. After learning these techniques you will have the opportunity to turn one or two small projects chosen by the instructor. Once you’re hooked on turning we offer pen, bowl turning and other turned project classes.
Students will craft their very own spoon or spatula using various types of wood. They will learn to use the bandsaw, sanding equipment, and how to use gouges and chisels to carve a bowl into a spoon. They will also learn sanding techniques for working with unusual shapes, how to graduate from rough to fine grit sandpaper and how to finish their spoon or spatula.
This is a beginning course on how to use Sketchup to design your woodworking projects. The objective of the course is to teach students the basics of Sketchup, including configuring the toolset for woodworking design, basic navigating, drawing, and editing. The student will also design a table to put all the skills to use. Each student must contact the instructor before the class (1 week ahead is strongly encouraged) to arrange/select how to obtain the software. Three options will be provided, two of which require working with the Windows operating system. The online free Sketchup version will not work for this class.

This class will emphasize the basics lidded box turning process. The students will go home with a finished lidded box. Participants will keep both the jig and drawer for future use. We’ll discuss suggested building materials and methods, as well as options to apply a finish to your closet organization system. This class will give you the knowledge to design and build a closet organization system that meets your needs and makes best use of your space.

Welcome to the world of wood and epoxy where you’ll be hands-on designing and making your own custom epoxy charcuterie board, that you'll take home with you. It is a large Charcuterie Board roughly 1” x 12” x 20” and normally valued starting around $150. In this informative class you’ll learn everything from wood preparation and resin molds to types of resins, conditions and details for pouring all the way through the sanding and finishing process. It will cover the complete end to end process. The class will consist of two different days, with a two-hour session each day. The first session will consist of prep through pouring, and the second session will complete everything from de-molding though finishing. Each student will gain experience using the highest quality materials with the latest in state of the art resin molds, leading quality supplier of pigments and colors, top quality epoxy from the original U.S. manufacturer, and the finest walnut, cherry, and other hardwoods sustainably sourced locally from Shenandoah Valley as well as the leading food grade safe finishes from the leading U.S. supplier. No prior woodworking experience is required. Topics covered include wood selection, sanding and preparation of material, pore filling, oil and water based dye stains, and how to finish. Additionally, it will demonstrate techniques for enhancing grain and how to identify the proper protection of future projects. All supplies will be provided and students need only a basic knowledge of sanding, wood species, and finishing terminology.

In the second part of the class, you will learn how to make a variety of jigs and how to match a jig to the router task at hand.

In this class you will learn a quick and easy way to repeatedly and consistently sharpen all of your wood turning tools using the Wolverine sharpening system on a slow speed grinder. The Vari-grind jig will be demystified and you will be shown a simple method to sharpen all of your bowl and spindle gouges. Sharpening the spindle roughing gouge, skew, and scraper will also be discussed and demonstrated. Bring your turning tools - as many as you want to sharpen to practice your skills in class.

You will learn the common techniques for any of these projects. During this six hour class the instruction will include the selection of materials, dado and rabbet joinery, making face frames and raised panel doors providing you with the fundamental skills to apply to any of these types of projects. During the class, the instructor will build, with class participation, a wall cabinet to demonstrate the basic joinery methods for making the carcass and fabricating the face frame and raised panel doors.

Multiple topics will be discussed such as: What are the different types of hand planes? What is the first hand plane to purchase? What is a good hand saw? How to use a marking gauge? These and other topics will be discussed to start you on your way to a great experience in purchasing and using hand tools.
