Working with Epoxy

Part 1: Tuesday, June 23, 2026, 2 PM - 5 PM

Part 2: Wednesday, June 24, 2026, 2 PM - 5 PM

Join Marzell to cover the basics of working with epoxy. This 2-day course will cover mixing, coloring, and pouring epoxy. Students are encouraged to bring items to trap or suspend in the epoxy. The items must be dry. Wood, metal and fabric can all be trapped in resin. Students will each make a custom pour using clear and colored epoxy in a mold. The epoxy will then be cut and shaped into a one-of-a-kind clock.

Flags of Valor

Happy Fourth of July!! Come in on either July 3rd or July 5th for our Flags of Valor painting days. On the 3rd and 5th we'll turn the classroom into a studio for kids (and grown-up kids) to paint there own American flag!

Shop Safety - Weekday

Wednesday, July 8, 2026, 2 PM - 5 PM

Woodcraft's Shop Safety class is an introduction to safe shop practices. As this class is a prerequisite to other classes offered by Woodcraft, the instructor will discuss general safety concerns as they relate to the equipment located in our shop. It also presents the student an opportunity to become familiar with Woodcraft's particular machinery. While your own equipment will most likely be different than ours, the safety practices learned will be easily applied in your shop. Hands on experience will be gained on some of the most commonly used equipment in the shop. In this new and expanded version of the class, we will also be discussing the different types of safety equipment available for shop use, from safety glasses to first aid kits. Hearing and eye protection and closed toe shoes are required.

Bandsaw 101

Saturday, July 11, 2026, 12 PM - 4 PM

Learn how to select a blade and adjust the tension, set the guide blocks/bearings, check wheel alignment, change tires, switch blades and use the tilting table. In addition, some cutting techniques such as re-sawing and circle cutting will be covered as well. This is a hands-on class so come prepared to practice and get dusty. BSAW101NT

Introduction to the Wood Lathe

This class is for the brand new woodturner and those for whom any association with the lathe may have been many years ago. It is also for those who have recently acquired a lathe or those who are anticipating purchasing one. We will introduce you to the basics of woodturning, the medium we use (wood), some of the things you can do on the lathe, which lathe might be best for you, and how to use it safely. You will be told about all of those other things you will need but nobody told you about - tools, grinders, chucks, drills, sandpaper, finishes, etc. Some of these (turning tools for instance) are a necessity, while others are desirable options. We will cover some basic sharpening techniques using a roughing gouge for our demonstration. Time permitting and how well you grasp a few basic tool techniques, you will be guided through making a simple project that you can take home and use. (All materials are included) (CLS311)

Knife Making 101 - Custom Knife Scales

Join David to create a knife you will be proud to show and use for a lifetime, or for a quality gift. In this class you will attach your own custom scales to a Drop Point Hunter's Knife blank. You will learn how to shape, mount and finish custom handles for a truly one-of-a-kind knife. Class includes all materials.

Introduction to CNC

Wednesday, July 22, 2026, 10 AM - 4 PM

This is an introductory course to CNC. Students will learn the basic components of a CNC machine and fundamentals of how to design and machine a simple sign. Your own laptop with Vectric's V-Carve will allow you to follow along step-by-step.

Basic Cabinet Making

Part 1: Saturday, July 25, 2026, 10 AM - 5 PM

Part 2: Sunday, July 26, 2026, 10 AM - 4 PM

Learn to make basic cabinets for the kitchen, bathroom or shop in this two-day class. Jay will discuss all aspects of cabinet making such as design, layout, and building the carcass. Jay will teach you how to use the pocket hole jig for joining face frames, and for joining the carcasses of the cabinets. You will make a shelf and then use a jig for drilling shelf pin holes. The router table, table saw, jointer, sander, and planer will all be used. During the class, you will make and then take home a small upper cabinet.

Reviving & Restoring Hand Planes

Saturday, August 1, 2026, 10 AM - 4 PM

Do you have an old bench plane around that you don't use? Did you buy an old plane at a yard or estate sale that needs some TLC ? Or how about newer planes that you don't use because they don't perform up to your expectations? David will show you how to make old planes useable again and how to tune up new planes to make them perform 100% better. Some of the subjects covered will include sharpening, dealing with rust, repairing knobs and totes, flattening soles and what to look for when contemplating the purchase of a plane - old or new. ( Your plane irons must be in reasonable condition - not too much rust or pitting). Join us for a day of fun making this important hand tool a part of your arsenal again.

Router 101

Join us for the first in a series of skills building router classes sure to put you on the right track with your new router. This hands-on course will cover the basic functions of one of the workshop's most versatile tools. The router can be used for everything from putting a decorative edge on wood, to making fast and accurate mortise and tenon joints. Topics include router safety, choosing a router, making jigs, bit selection, router tables and more. Students will get practical experience using the fixed base router and router table, while completing a small project. This course provides the foundation for more advanced techniques and classes. Bandsaw Boxes Made Simple

Saturday, August 8, 2026, 10 AM - 4 PM

In this class you will tune up your skills by using the band saw, spindle sander, belt sander, disk sander, clamping and gluing. With expert guidance from Harlem, you will take a simple block of wood and turn it into a beautiful box. The skills you learn will enable you to progress into many other uses for your band saw. Table Saw Basics

The table saw is the centerpiece of any woodworking shop. However, many people are not getting the best performance from this critical machine. We will cover such topics as safe operations, proper blade selection, how to check it during use, and tricks and tips to make sure it continues to perform as you want it to. Hands on work will include basic rip cuts and cross cuts.

From Rough to Ready - Lumber Preparation

Intro to Scroll Saw - Toy Truck

Saturday, August 22, 2026, 10 AM - 3 PM

Learn tips for successful scrollsawing and create a fun Toy Truck. There will also be the option of making a Music Note stand. No experience is necessary for this course.

Sharpening Hand Tools

Sunday, August 23, 2026, 12 PM - 4 PM

This class will focus on sharpening three of the most common edge tools in the wood shop; the hand plane, the chisel and spokeshave. David will explain the use of angle setting jigs as well as the differences between various sharpening mediums. Students are encouraged to bring one handplane, chisel and/or spokeshave to be sharpened.
