Making A Resin Blank and Pen

Customized pen blanks give you the opportunity to really elevate your pen making. In this two part class you will learn how to cast a pen blank – and then turn that blank into your own custom pen! Week one will focus on resin casting basics including resin types, colorants, molds, and pressure pots. You’ll select colorants, mix your resin and pour it into the mold. Then, in week two, you will come back to the shop to de-mold your pen blank, drill it, insert the tubes and turn your pen!

Join us for a fun and hands-on two-part class where you’ll learn how to create your own stunning epoxy river charcuterie board from start to finish! In Part One, we’ll guide you through building a custom mold, prepping a live edge slab, and mixing and coloring your epoxy. You’ll pour your design and watch it come to life. In Part Two, we’ll de-mold your piece and walk you through cutting it to final dimensions, adding edge details, and finishing with sanding and polishing techniques. By the end of the class, you’ll go home with a beautiful 20" x 12" x 1" epoxy river charcuterie board—perfect as a gift or a striking centerpiece for your next gathering.

Cutting Board from a Kit

Learn to create a cutting board from one of our project kits! In this class, you’ll select your cutting board kit and do the prep work to glue up. We’ll review glue selection, best practices for glue ups, clamp selection, and complete the glue up. Then, you'll plane the board, apply a finish, and you’ll go home with a custom, handmade cutting or serving board. Size range will vary but most boards will be between 6-12" wide and 12" long.

Tis the Season! Ring in the holidays by crafting an elegant Christmas ornament. Learn the basics of woodturning while you turn a simple piece of wood into a thing of beauty. This class will cover the basics of lathe operation, turning tool types and selection, safety, tool maintenance, and turning techniques needed to create your one-of-a-kind ornaments. Class time should allow for the completion of two finished ornaments, and you’ll have three finial options to choose from. Ornaments make a great gift for co-workers, gift exchanges, or neighbors!

Sharpening Chisels and Planes

Edge tools such as chisels and planes must be razor sharp to perform at their best.  This 3-hour class will teach the basic techniques to achieve that sharpness.  Instructor Chuck Luttrell will explain and demonstrate his method for sharpening chisels and plane irons.  As part of the class fee students will receive the necessary jig and stones to create their own sharpening kit:  a Veritas Mk.II Standard Honing Guide, a King 250X1000 water stone, a Shapton 4000 glass stone, a Shapton 8000 glass stone, and a Norton Truing stone.  Not included, but must be provided by the students are and used during the class -  a shallow lipped 9 x 13 baking sheet/pan to serve as a base for the sharpening stones, a sealable plastic tub or food container to store the stones in, and a plastic spray bottle.
