Cutting Board from a Kit

Learn to create a cutting board from one of our project kits! In the first class, you’ll select your cutting board kit and do the prep work to glue up. We’ll review glue selection, best practices for glue ups, clamp selection, and complete the glue up. In the second class, we will plane and sand the boards, review finish options, and apply a finish. You’ll go home with a custom, handmade cutting or serving board. Size range will vary but most boards will be between 6-12" wide and 12" long.

Create a cheese knife and board set! In this class we'll use a small cutting board kit to create our cheese board. While the cheese board glue up is drying, you'll turn a handle for the cheese knife. Upon completion, you’ll feel confident enough to not only use all of these tools, but to make wise purchases of your own tools. Attendance is mandatory for the first session, and a material/supply fee of $150 is due at the first class, paid directly to the instructor. All you need to bring is your creativity!

Want to have a Big Board to hold your full packer brisket or prime rib? In this three-part class we'll design, construct and finish a 24" x 19" x 1.75" hardwood cutting board. You'll select from walnut, maple, cherry and padauk to construct your custom board. In the first class we'll cover design, layout and discuss the unique construction challenges of big boards. In the second class we'll prep and glue up our boards. Sanding, finishing and adding a juice groove, if desired, will complete our third session. Stop by and check out the finished Big Board Bob constructed. The retail value of the Big Board is over $550.00! Class signup must occur at least one week prior to first session.

Making A Resin Blank and Pen

Customized pen blanks give you the opportunity to really elevate your pen making. In this two part class you will learn how to cast a pen blank – and then turn that blank into your own custom pen! Week one will focus on resin casting basics including resin types, colorants, molds, and pressure pots. You’ll select colorants, mix your resin and pour it into the mold. Then, in week two, you will come back to the shop to de-mold your pen blank, drill it, insert the tubes and turn your pen!

Everyone needs another table! Students will design, fabricate, and assemble a basic table - based on their experience and skill level. End tables and coffee tables are recommended, but larger tables may be possible, based on instructor approval. Students will learn proper methods for laminating a tabletop, mortise and tenon (or Domino) joinery, top attachment, and much more will be covered. Basic Woodworking is a prerequisite to this class. A material/supply fee of $60 is due at the first class, paid directly to the instructor. Supply fee does not include wood or wood finish - students must supply wood and finish for their project.
