Introduction To Woodturning

Saturday, September 21, 9 AM - 5 PM

Join us in the shop and learn the basics of lathe turning and how to correctly turn spindles. This class is designed for the beginning turner as well as those students who have done some turning but may still have some questions about spindle turning. Each student will turn a practice spindle, and a small woodworker's mallet to take home. Students will learn the parts of the lathe, turning tools, proper turning techniques, finishing techniques used for turning, and SAFETY while turning.

Turn A Bowl

Sunday, September 22, 9:30 AM - 4:30 PM

This class is designed for those students who have done some turning but want to learn how to do a BOWL. Students will be introduced to faceplate and chuck turning. Students will learn proper mounting of the work piece, roughing cut, cutting and sizing tenon, outside and inside bowl cuts, scraper cuts, finishing the foot, and finishing techniques. Students will turn a bowl of their own to take home.

Basic Cabinet Construction

Part 1: Saturday, September 28, 9 AM - 5 PM

Learn the basics of cabinetmaking. This approach to cabinet construction can be utilized in the kitchen, bathroom, or shop. In this course students will be constructing a small pre-designed cabinet, in a 3-phase process: (1) Carcass construction, (2) Face frame construction, and (3) Cabinet door construction.

In this interactive seminar, Alex Snodgrass will show just how easy it is to make beautiful bandsaw boxes. Alex Snodgrass: 3D Cutting Board Class

This is a great opportunity to create your own stunning 3D Stair Step Cutting Board with the master himself, Alex Snodgrass. Using only three different woods – maple, cherry, and walnut – Alex will show each student how to make a 3D Stair Step Cutting Board that will really impress your family and friends. During the class, Alex will answer all of your questions about bandsaws, while covering basic topics such as bandsaw mechanics, tuning a bandsaw, and making perfect straight or angled cuts. Alex will also cover topics including glue-up techniques, how to plane and will debunk some common bandsaw myths. Scroll Saw 101

Saturday, October 26, 9 AM - 4 PM

This course introduces you to one of the most productive (and fun) tools in any workshop...the scroll saw. In this hands-on class, you will learn saw set-up, proper operation, proper blade selection, and how to fine-tune your scroll saw. You will learn how to make internal and external cuts and do several practice exercises that increase in difficulty as you go. By the end of the class, you will be ready to tackle any scroll saw project.

Hand Sharpening 101

Never use a dull tool again! Bring your dull chisels and/or plane irons and join our staff in this beginning sharpening class. You will learn the theory & proper techniques used for sharpening many of your hand tools. Save yourself the time and frustration and learn how to sharpen your tools right the first time. Throughout the class you will help breathe life into those chipped and dull edges.

Three Dimensional Carving

If you have ever wanted to carve three-dimensionally but didn't know how to start or make your piece more life-like, this is the class for you. Whether you want to understand how to carve a realistic face, bears, horses, wolves or other animals, this class can help you do that. The class will offer direct instruction for novice carvers and guidance for those who are more advanced. The goal of the class is to make three-dimensional carving accessible and enjoyable for all carvers. Carvers should come with at least a 4 x 10 x 12 block of wood (basswood or butternut are easiest to work with). Carving tools should be of similar sizes & shapes as those listed.

If you have ever tried to sharpen a gouge, you know how frustrating it can be. We will show you how to save yourself time, frustration, and money, and learn how to grind your turning tools right the first time. Your instructor will demonstrate various ways to sharpen your turning tools using different sharpening systems.

Router Basics

Routers can be intimidating. In this hands-on class, students will learn how to safely use this versatile tool for creating decorative edges, cutting groove and dadoes, and template routing, among other techniques. Bit selection and router accessories will also be covered.

Wooden Cheeseboard

Learn how to take an ordinary piece of wood and one of our Cheese Cutter kits and transform them into a beautiful Cheese Board that you would be proud to serve at any party or give as a gift.

Probably one of the most immediately gratifying woodworking projects is turning a pen. You start with a raw piece of wood, some hardware, and a couple of tools and within a short time you have a beautiful, functional project that you did yourself. Learn the fundamentals of creating a pen and leave with one you can use or give as a gift.

Turn An Acrylic Pen

Take your pen turning to the next level using acrylics. They are both colorful and fun! You will learn the proper techniques for turning, sanding, polishing and assembly. You will leave the class with a beautiful pen in the color combination you select.
