Hand Tools 101: Planes

Sunday, December 29, 10 AM - 4 PM

If you have ever wondered how woodworkers made furniture before they had power tools or if you just want to understand why your hand tools never seem to work as well as they do in videos and magazines, this class will help answer that question. In this class we focus on the Hand Plane, a tool that can flatten and smooth out a board for use in any project. We will teach you the art of sharpening, tuning and using a hand plane effectively. Once you have mastered the plane, it can be used to help eliminate a majority of your edge sanding. The result is a smoother surface in a fraction of the time; plus, it is a lot more fun than sanding! Students are encouraged to bring their own hand planes to see how you can tune and use your hand plane like a pro and have it perform like new.
