Our Simply Shaker Series gives students a chance to make beautiful pieces of furniture that follow tenets of the Shaker style: simplicity, utility, and craftsmanship. All of the projects we'll tackle in this series will feature clean lines and sturdy construction and students will be encouraged to show close attention to detail as they build their furniture. In this session, students will build a traditional and timeless Step Stool, often referred to as a "Two-Stepper", and will feature exposed dovetail joinery and a functional arch. Some of the tools used during the class include the jointer, planer, table saw, handheld router, dovetail jig, bandsaw, and router table. OPTIONAL UPGRADE: The tuition covers the cost of Cherry lumber, but students can pay an additional $50 to make their stools out of Walnut.

This workshop is perfect for both passionate hobbyists and aspiring furniture makers who want to deepen their skills while working with professional-grade equipment. Over the course of this class, you'll gain experience with essential techniques like joinery, planing, cutting, and sanding, all while exploring the unique capabilities of Festool's track saws, Domino joiners, dust extractors, and more. We'll cover everything from wood selection and layout to final assembly and finishing, with a strong focus on craftsmanship and safety. By the end of the class, you'll not only walk away with a beautiful, handcrafted farmhouse table—you’ll also gain confidence in using Festool tools to elevate your future woodworking projects. While the focus of this series is on kitchen cabinetmaking, the techniques you’ll learn can easily be applied to many types of cabinetry including bathroom vanities, closets, mudrooms, built-ins, and more. In the first part of this series, students will spend 12+ hours of class time learning about the cabinetmaking process as they build two cabinets to take home. While the focus of this series is on kitchen cabinetmaking, the techniques you’ll learn can easily be applied to many types of cabinetry including bathroom vanities, closets, mudrooms, built-ins, and more. In the first part of this series, students will spend 12+ hours of class time learning about the cabinetmaking process as they build two cabinets to take home. Topics covered include: creating a cut list, processing sheets of plywood, creating case joinery, applying edge banding, drilling shelf pin holes, and making and attaching face frames. Students will complete two cabinet boxes: a base cabinet sized to fit common benchtop tools, and a wall cabinet that can be used for utility or shop storage. Any extra time at the end of the class can be used for preparing surfaces for finish and/or discussing kitchen layout ideas.

Students will build on the skills learned in our Kitchen Cabinetmaking 100 series by constructing a linen cabinet that measures 24"W x 72"H x 17"D and incorporates features typically found in high end custom cabinets like beaded face frames and inset doors. One of the main goals of this class is to reinforce the skills and processes covered in the 100 series, but we'll also introduce new challenges like: processing large panels; creating joinery for large panels; making beaded face frames; making a curved bottom rail (optional); fitting and installing inset (aka flush mounted) doors; installing and adjusting undermount slides; using the LR32 system to drill shelf pin holes; and making cove crown molding with the table saw. Due to the size and scope of this project, we will not have time to apply finishes, but students will have the option to schedule a follow-up session to apply the finish of their choice (for an additional fee). Students will build on the skills learned in our Kitchen Cabinetmaking 100 series by constructing a linen cabinet that measures 24"W x 72"H x 17"D and incorporates features typically found in high end custom cabinets like beaded face frames and inset doors. One of the main goals of this class is to reinforce the skills and processes covered in the 100 series, but we'll also introduce new challenges like: processing large panels; creating joinery for large panels; making beaded face frames; making a curved bottom rail (optional); fitting and installing inset (aka flush mounted) doors; installing and adjusting undermount slides; using the LR32 system to drill shelf pin holes; and making cove crown molding with the table saw. Due to the size and scope of this project, we will not have time to apply finishes, but students will have the option to schedule a follow-up session to apply the finish of their choice (for an additional fee).
