CNC the XYZ:…an introductory seminar into the world of the CNC. This three block program includes: an introduction to software, an overview of CNC mechanics and how to cut a v-carve sign. During the software portion, participants will create a sign using Vectric VCarve and develop a toolpath. Followed by instruction on how to secure a blank, the parts, the operation and safe use of a CNC. A demonstration of a V-Carved sign concludes the seminar. PC laptop and external mouse required for class. Software does not work on Mac OS.

Floating Shelf

Make a floating shelf in this class and learn the steps involved so you can add multiple to your home, office or other space! In this class you will learn basic milling steps in preparing your wood for becoming a shelf, how to safely use machines such as the jointer, planer, table saw, miter saw, and drill press. This shelf will be a solid hardwood shelf, with traditional floating shelf hardware for a clean and seamless look. All materials are included in the price. Your shelf will be 24" L, 7" deep and about 2" thick. You have the option to leave with the shelf finish/stain ready, or you can oil it with mineral oil for a natural finish.

This class is more intensive than our Basic Spoon Carving Class. Whether you are new to woodworking or have advanced skills, you will learn concepts of design, tool preparation and tune-up, and carving techniques. You will think creatively and be encouraged to express your artistic self through design, all while carving spoons using a variety of woods, hand tools, and power tools. You will be exposed to a bench top spoon mule and a shave horse. By end of this course, each student will have the opportunity to carve 3 to 4 different spoons or spatulas with emphasis on design, material selection, quality, and a variety of finishes. Every shop needs a workbench, a nice flat surface that is stable with space to create. During this weekend class, students will create their very own workbench that features a solid birch top, a couple of shelves, bench dog holes and two woodworking vises. To make a workbench, you need a workbench, and we will supply those. If you added all these workbench components together, it would cost almost $1000, if you made it yourself.

Learn how colored epoxy adds a creative zest to wood projects. Here we will make a small table top, approx. 22" x 16", which will make a nice coffee table or end table. First day: make the mold, prep the wood, mix the liquid acrylic and color agent, and pour it into the mold. Second day: After the acrylic has cured we will remove the wood from the mold and use the planer, jointer, and drum sander to clean up the surfaces. Legs can be added for additional purchase.

Gary's basic bowl class concentrates on the craft of making a wooden bowl for everyday practical use. The basics of wood selection, mounting the wood to the lathe, design elements and the use of bowl gouges to turn and shape the bowl. Sanding and finishing will also be discussed.

Introduction to Woodworking

Learn how to use the miter saw, planer, jointer, and table saw to safely prepare and correctly dimension wood. You will also be introduced to the drum sander, router table and bandsaw. Virtually every wood project begins with this exercise and a thorough understanding of the basics will be a great foundation upon which you may build a safe and creative hobby experience.

Epoxy Coffee Table with Steel Legs

Make a show piece for your living room. Learn to build a mold, prep live edge wood, clamping, mixing and coloring epoxy. Second day we will remove from the mold, sand, finish and mount legs. Approximate size: 1.5" x 20" x 44".

CNC The XYZ

CNC the XYZ:…an introductory seminar into the world of the CNC. This three block program includes: an introduction to software, an overview of CNC mechanics and how to cut a v-carve sign. During the software portion, participants will create a sign using Vectric VCarve and develop a toolpath. Followed by instruction on how to secure a blank, the parts, the operation and safe use of a CNC. A demonstration of a V-Carved sign concludes the seminar. PC laptop and external mouse required for class. Software does not work on Mac OS.

Spray Finishing Techniques

Spraying a finish on your project is like the holy grail of woodwork finishing, yet the process intimidates so many people for fear of ruining all of their hard work. This class is designed to take the guesswork out of the finishing process with hands-on practice and will teach you: types of finish to spray, thinning of finish, and types of spray guns. After taking this class, you will have the confidence to finish your next project like a pro and take your skills to the next level. Lathe Turning for Food Lovers

Make your own wood-handled pizza cutter and ice cream scoop. This class will cover mounting workpieces on the lathe,turning handle profiles with various lathe tools, attaching handles to utensils, and applying finishes.

This class will show just how easy it is to make your own cutting board. This class will cover milling rough lumber, glue up, planing, sanding, routing, and finishing. Every student will leave with a finished cutting board.

This fun carving project could be your first step to learning something new. Carving is great fun and a hobby you can do anywhere. In class you will learn tool basics, layout and proper technique.
