Cutting Board Fundamentals

Required Tools

Designed for beginners, this hands-on class introduces students to the safe and proper use of the essential tools found in a wood shop. In the first half of the class, students will learn how to accurately flatten and size lumber using the table saw, jointer, and planer. Once the material has been prepared and made flat, straight, and square, we’ll cover effective glue-up techniques as students combine their pieces to create a beautiful cutting board. During the second half of the class, students will learn how to safely operate a router and router table to shape their cutting board and add a decorative edge detail. By the end of the class, each student will leave with a completed project and a strong foundation of woodworking skills to continue their journey in the shop. No prior woodworking experience is required.
