Hand Woven Cane: The 7 Step Method

This is the class to learn the beautiful skill of Caning. Bring your own chair or request a chair from the instructor. We begin Thursday evening with chair prep, description of tools, identifying the size and quantity of material needed. Demonstration of Steps One and Two will be given. On Saturday bring your chair back with Steps One and Two completed. The fun begins with Steps Three and Four on Saturday!

Shaker Oval Box

Discover the fun of wood shaping while learning to make a set of three cherry Shaker oval boxes. In this two-day class (spanning two consecutive Sundays), you will learn to make your forms & shapers, prepare & soak the cherry bands to complete the bending process. Day two will have you fit the tops and bottoms; and discuss finishing options.

Handcutting Dovetails

This class will present the step-by-step sequences on how to create through-dovetails and half-blind dovetails. This class will simplify the dovetail process and motivate you to create dovetail joinery. What you will learn: - Why dovetails work - Exercises that build muscle memory for cutting and paring by hand - Which layout marks you need and which ones you don't - Two ways to to cut dovetails by hand -- pins first or tails first -- and why it matters - How to incorporate power tools and machines for increased accuracy - Expert tips for fitting and troubleshooting - Fixes for common mistakes

Cover basic lathe operation, safety, tool use, sharpening, as well as five practice exercises covering spindle and bowl work. This class is a must take for any beginning turner! You will learn how to safely and effectively turn and give you the foundation to grow your own skill.

CNC V-Carve 101

Saturday, May 18, 10 AM - 4 PM

Come join in learning the basics of Vectrics V-Carve software. Learn how to create a CNC job. Using basic shapes and basic text. We will learn to create basic toolpaths, and how to save for machining. We will create an easy to carve sign, and you can carve here at the end of class or if you own your own machine carve it at home. NOTE: Those who have the free demo installed will not be able to output their design to have it carved. We will if time permitted be able to recreate in our version and output to the machine.
