    Could be Improved

Before I had this I was using a home built spindle sander that I rigged up with steel bar and rubber bands. However often the sandpaper would slide off, and it worked with a motor running at 1400 rpms. So this one I placed in the drill press and run at 400 rpms, a big difference. It allows me to work with sandpaper with many rages. I also use it up to 2000 grit. I'm very happy with this, but do wish to leave some comments on improvements: 1) It could be much more efficient if it was longer, thus reducing the time spent changing sandpaper. 2) Instead of foam, which now is slightly shredded and peeling off the bottom insert spot, a tougher rubber could be used with a better adhesive. If the cylinder were sanded to 60 grit and then adhesive and rubber added the bond would not tear off like the foam does. Also the rubber would be less prone damage. And in conclusion the harder but giving backing would sand more evenly when metal pins are present.

    Nice Sanding Drum

These sanding drums are excellent for use with a drill press to sand the contours of rounded pieces. The unique design that uses ordinary sandpaper versus using sanding sleeves makes it more economical in the long run. If you do much sanding on pieces that aren't straight these are nice to have around. You pay more in the beginning but the convenience of using regular sandpaper sheets is worth the extra cost for a quality made product.
