Just like Harbour Freight
I bought this sander 12/15/18 i got it home and put it together. The table is nect to impossiable to get squared to the disk. Just like the HF belt/disk sander I'm replacing.

Great machine
Just bought one on sale at the Harrisburg store. Had been looking for one for a couple weeks. Read a couple bad reviews and was a little concerned. However, staff was very helpful and showed me one in their classroom. Brought it home and set it up. Very little setup required. Had to adjust table so it didn't bind on the disc, but that was easy - just adjusted the three bolts on the bottom. Did some test sanding with hardwoods and it worked fine - no bog down. I highly recommend this machine if you're looking for a "portable" machine. Even with its portability, there was no vibration or movement on my bench even though it was not bolted down.

Good machine
I have owned this sander for over a year and used the heck out of it. I am an amateur luthier making guitars and ukuleles. Sanding hardwoods like mahogany and rosewood. Works great. You have to keep drive belt tight and then it wont slow down. I did have to drill out screw head on drive belt cover because it was seized. Then I could change worn belt and keep new one tight. 80 grit sanding belt is capable of removing lots of wood.

Amazing and powerful sander
I love this little sander! I wish I would have got it sooner. I'm a wood worker and boat carpenter it does everything I throw at it. The design is great the disc doesn't interfere when you use the belt like other ones.

Nice Machine!!!
Don't know what people are complaining about. Remember you get what you pay for. I'm a true believer of that. If you want $500 performance you got to spend $500. I love the machine already. I'm a professional woodworker and it sanded 2x6 arm rest for a swing with ease. It did not bog down at all. Remember let the sander do the work not your arm. And the complaining about the vibration, well bolt it down, that really helps out. This machine will work nicely.

worked as expected
i use this compact sander to prepare pen and bottle blanks. it is perfect for these tasks, which require little torque. set up was very easy. It was out of the box, assembled, inspected, safety check and working in 5 minutes. i like the compact size. i have limited space to work in. This sander provides the capability I need in tight quarters.

So far so good. Smooth, capable.
Good sander for most projects. Smooth, good belt tracking. For the money, very good sander.

Poor Quality
Price: you get what you pay for! Tracking is terrible and when you change belts you have to pull half the machine apart. It is noisy and unbalanced….for a few more dollars you can have a Jet and will be all the happier for it. I usually do not write poor reports, this is the first.

DO NOT BUY - AWFUL TOOL
I was excited to try out this machine after it arrived today. I took it out of its mangled packaging, plugged it in, and turned it on. At first the belt did not move, the motor just whined for a few moments. I gave the belt a push and then it began operation. I put a 2" piece of 1/2" plywood on the main belt and it sanded for about a second before the belt slowed and then stopped. The motor is ridiculously underpowered, and franky terrible. This tool is a joke, only suitable for extremely small pieces of soft wood, if that. Definitely completely useless for any hardwoods. Worst tool I have ever purchased, I will be returning this asap. Do not buy this tool.

great little combo sander
This tool does what it's designed to do. Did not have any of the problems from. The negative reviews.

works great for small projects
I picked this sander up at a sale at the local woodcraft store on a whim; now I cannot imagine life without it. I mainly use it to rough out braces and bridges for fiddles and mandolins -- works great. I would have given it 5 stars, but the quality of the product is a bit on the shoddy side; table for the disc sander needed to be aligned; the screws in the chassis are crooked and not square to the chassis - so 4 stars. Hint: do not use this sander without a dust collecting solution. I did my first project without a dust collector; result: there was a fine layer of dust in my entire house. A cheap dust collector solution is Ridgid's shop vac model WD1270; it has an air volume of 130 cubic feet/min, plenty for a single sander and its 2.5" hose fits right into the sander's dust port.

Underpowered
I bought this knowing Rikon is generally a good brand. However, this benchtop sander is very poorly built. After 4 weeks of use, the belt stopped rotating with just lightly setting a piece of soft wood on it. And the screws to the belt housing are made of soft metal and stripped out on my first try to remove them. It is going in the garbage and I am looking for a brand that will work.

Very Poor Quality
I bought this yesterday and it is going back today. The belt was torn coming out of the box - first clue. The instructions are about as poor quality as any I have seen in a long time - hard to read blurry photocopy pictures. But the main reason I am taking is back is that the table for the disc sander is of such cheap quality that it would never stand up to any real use. It is impossible to align it square with the disc - hitting on one side - out 1/4 in out on the other. After the fact I read the reviews on [@]and am surprised that Woodcraft would sell such a poorly reviewed item. I bought it because I have never gotten anything but quality from Woodcraft. This one is the exception.

I would buy this product again
Came shipped in excellant condition. For the small woodworking projects I do it's a perfect addition to my shop. Plenty powerful and quieter than I thought it would be.

I can't rate it cause it isn't here yet!

Great tool; great price.
I was hesitant to buy this at first after not having seen any reviews for it online, but given Rikon's reputation and the reasonable price, I decided to give it a shot. I don't have a real indoor workspace, so all of my tools have to be portable to enable me to work outdoors. I set this up on a portable workbench and found it to be very well balanced and solid; I never got the feeling it might topple even though it wasn't bolted down. It is plenty powerful and has done everything I've asked of it. The only drawbacks I can note is the lack of a 90 degree stop for mounting the small workplate for use with the belt and the poorly written instruction manual, but both of those can easily be overcome by a patient operator. This tool is going to get plenty of use.

OK sander
I picked this up on sale two days ago. I have used it for about 12 hours now. It looks identical to the Worx/Rockwell 6" Disc & 4" Belt Sander RK7866, carried at my local hardware store but was a lot cheaper. Some parts of the sander were banged up right out of the box. There were parts loose and they beat up some of the plastic pieces. This did not effect the operation at all. I primarily use these types of sanders for smoothing smaller parts and shaping metal. The supplied table and miter gauge are not well made and do not fasten to the unit well. I took them off and have been using it with a shop made jig/table that I had made for with my bench grinder. It works fine with that. For the price I paid I will be happy with the sander if it makes it through the warranty period without breaking.
