        Good unit efficient and effective

Purchased in a sale at Woodcraft. mounted on the ceiling in a 20 x 40' shop with low ceiling (only 7'9"). I put this at one side so as not to have it in the way and dinged by long pieces of wood. Had to mount it with the IR sensor pointing back at the wall, but the remote works by using the white wall as a "mirror". I have it running when sanding or doing dusty work and then leave it running on the timer for a couple of hours after I leave the shop. It has greatly reduced the layer of fine dust that used to cover everything in the workshop. Not too noisy, but I still prefer working with it off!

        Excellent machine

I use this product in a single car garage shop and love it. it is a little large for my shop, but that is great because it is speed variable so I can range from a normal speed for my small area, or turn it on high and move some serious air. this machine is quiet, works very well, and has the remote you didn't know you needed until you had it. the timer is a nice function as well. if you have a larger shop and it needs to run a while after you leave, just set the timer. every shop needs this machine

        Clean Living

The unit was purchased in 2011 and worked better than expected for close to 6 months of hard usage. One day it just died. Pulled the unit down and discovered the motor controller was fried. Months later, contacted Rikon customer service and was greeting by a very polite and apologetic service rep. The main board was shipped and received promptly and installed it myself. NOTE: The installation required an addition of 4-1/8" stand-offs to get the proper board distance, but I had those on hand. Now the air cleaner is working properly again and I can now breath easier.

        works perfect

this air cleaner works great. untill i used it i never reliazed how mutch dust was in the air. i recomend buying a washable prefilter for it. just because of all the dust that this collects. it's a great unit.

        INCONSENTENT WORKING

I HAVE HAD THE FILTER FOR ABOUT A YEAR WHEN IT WORKS IT WORKS GOOD. BUT IT WILL JUST STOP RUNNING SIT FOR A WHILE THEN START UP AGAIN MORE AND FASTER ON HIGH THAN LOW SPEED SOMETIMES IT JUST WILL NOT START AT ALL. UNPLUG IT THEN IT WILL START MOST TIMES. BOUGHT IT BECAUSE IT WAS ON SALE SHOULD HAVE SPENT THE EXTRA AND GOT THE JET. I CHECK AND A LOT OF OTHER PEOPLE HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM THEY SAID THERE PROBLEM WAS IN THE CONTROL BOARD. AM TRYING TO GET IT FIXED NOW.

        great unit for the money

Saw some bad reviews on this unit elsewhere when I bought mine, so thought I'd throw in my 2cents. I hate it when folks review a week after buying ... I've had mine quite a few months now. My shop is a 10x30 section of an outbuilding with 11' ceilings. I have the usual - tablesaw, bandsaw, radial saw, 48" sander, etc. etc. Some griped about it being loud - I thought it was just fine for what it is. It's MUCH quieter than my JET 4" dust collector. Some said the remote was touchy - mine works just like I expected. It's like any other IR remote, you aim it generally at the device and it works. I did not hang mine from the celing as I often move around long lumber and sheet goods and did not want to whack it. Worse, I did not want to whack it and have it come loose and hit me on the head. I mounted it to the wall as the instructions say you can and it works great. I have been nothing but pleased with this unit. I usually run it on low setting and in conjunction with a JET 4" dust collector, it keeps the air very clean. In fact even when I'm working a lot, within minutes even that "oaky" or "walnut" smell that lingers after I work those woods is pretty much gone. You can spend a lot more for theoretical advantages, but I could also use such reasoning to convince myself I need a BMW instead of my Honda. Reality is, my unit works and works very well at what it's supposed to do. The only negatives I found are that the mechanism to hold the outer filter in could probably be better designed, and, like the other reviewer, if I want a washable outer filter, I'll have to hunt. Fit and finish is good but not perfect. I consider 5 stars "perfection," so 4 stars and a strongly recommend from me on this unit.

        Easily equivalent to the Jet

Bought this on the extended Black Friday deal after the local rep tried to up-sell me on the Jet. Frankly, the Rikon gives great performance for a 35x35 basement shop. I've been using it regularly for the last 3-4 weeks and it makes a huge difference. My only criticisms are: 1) Woodcraft doesn't carry the washable electrostatic pre-filter, but you can find it (Rikon# 61-912E), and 2) it takes some creativity to hang the thing, because the I-hooks are not on 16 inch centers, but if you get some garage-door cable, hooks and U-bolts, you're good to go. Great machine for the money.
