    Great, but a headache.

The mug is really nice looking and a nice size for coffee. The first mug arrived all broken apart, but Woodcraft sent another one without a problem. It's true there's not really any good instructions, but then again, the project is straight forward. There's no guide as to how long to make the handle, but 3 3/8" - 3/12" seems like a good length. The headache as mentioned above is threading the handle onto the post. I checked 3 places for the m6 threaded wood insert, but neither store carried it. I bought a a set of multiple sizes on Amazon. I used a "V" size drill bit for my insert (diameter .377"/9.58mm). You might need a "v" shaped jig to secure or even hand hold the handle while drilling. Make sure to set a stop on the drill press or mark the bit with tape. The length of the insert I used was 10 mm which fit the mug post perfectly. One issue was the insert's flange. The set of inserts I bought are from China and are cheap. It didn't take a lot of force to slightly break off the flange and strip the Allen key recess. I had to "peel off" the rest of the flange from the body of the insert and now it's fine. I question though if this is even worth it, since if I unscrew the handle each time for washing, I can't imagine that the handle will bottom out tightly exactly where it should, as time goes on. So after all this, I think it might be better to just epoxy the handle on the mug's threaded post and hand wash! (In that case, I would agree with a 13/64" bit for the hole in the handle)

    Get a threaded insert

This kit is a beginner level project. I had no directions. I added a m6 x 15mm threaded insert so handle could be removed for washing. This threaded insert should really be included in the kit. I am happy with my end result.

Mug is great, instructions are bad.

I{ will start by saying the quality and finish of the mug is awesome. It is however lacking in weight and the instructions however appear to have been an afterthought. They ask you to drill a 6mm hole for the screw post. The fit is like throwing a hot dog in a hallway.... way to large. At 6mm, there is no engagement from the screw post with the wood. After some testing, I found the correct size to be ~13/64. Also, I wish the mug had a more substantial weight to it. All in all the kit makes a unique gift. I made 4 this year as gifts for Christmas.
