Learn terminology of the lathe and lathe chisels. Understand the three basic cuts in woodturning that will be the foundation of all your woodturning. Practice turning skills, body positions and movements for the development of good and safe turning practices. Apply what you learn and making a small project such as a honey dipper, weed pot, tool handle, Christmas ornament if time permits. There will be a break for lunch and many restaurants are near by.

Introduction to Pen Turning - Acrylic Blanks

Participants will learn how to select a pen blank, either or wood, and prepare it for turning for the desired pen kit. You will learn the difference between High Speed Steel and Carbide as well as the pros and cons of each. Turning to the desired shape you choose. Sanding to be free of grain defects, remove tool marks, dents and other defects. Apply finish and avoid streaking. Assembly of the finished product to show off to friends and relatives. There will be a break for lunch and many restaurants are near by.
