Introduction to Veneering

Thursday, April 30, 2026, 6 PM - 9 PM

Veneering today doesn't require any special skills and can be quickly learned. Whether you have a concern for the environment or the scarcity of select hardwoods, veneering provides the means to use beautiful figured woods at a fraction of the cost of solid wood. It also allows woodworkers to use more stable substrates such as plywood and MDF and still achieve beautiful results. In this class, Mickey will demonstrate the tools, and materials used that are necessary to cut, join, and clamp veneers as well as the various clamping devices such as mechanical and vacuum presses. In addition, Mickey will discuss how veneers are made and the best sources for them. This introductory class is a prerequisite for further project related classes that will be offered in the near future.

Build a Pair of Trestle-style Sawhorses

Part 1: Saturday, May 2, 2026, 9:30 AM - 4 PM

Part 2: Sunday, May 3, 2026, 11 AM - 3 PM

Here's an opportunity to expand your shop accessories and a solution to support your work by building a pair of trestle-style sawhorses using common mortise and tenon joinery. Students will be using both power and hand tools. The trestle design features a durable and solid construction that'll withstand a lifetime of hard work in your shop while not taking up too much space.

Introduction to Woodturning and Make a Wooden Pen

Wednesday, May 6, 2026, 6 PM - 9 PM

You will be introduced to the joys of wood turning by learning how to make a wooden pen on the wood lathe. Students will also be introduced to lathe safety, lathe turning tools and important accessories as they apply to both spindle and bowl turning. By taking this introductory course, students will be better prepared to take further hands-on wood turning classes. Woodcraft will supply all tools and materials.
