This class will provide an introduction to wood pyrography, the technique of decorating wood by burning a design on the surface with a wood burning tool. This can be accomplished using stencils or free hand designs. You will be shown what supplies and tools needed to begin this art form through hands on demonstration.
In this hands-on class, craft your own wooden cutting board from start to finish! You"ll use a bandsaw to shape your board, a router for smooth edges, and sanding for a professional finish. Then, personalize it with a custom design using a laser engraver. No experience needed-perfect for gifts or your own kitchen!
(Must have completed Intro To Turning or have experience using HHS tools.) Turned wooden bowls or platters can make your dining experience truly memorable or create a display piece to show off your talent. This class will focus on using basic turning tools and techniques to create these wooden bowls and platters. Wood selection and mounting for grain orientation to get the most out of each piece will be discussed along with selection of proper tools. Students will turn a bowl using a tenon in a chuck system and Cole jaws to finish the bottom of the bowl. Students who choose to turn a platter will use a recess and expanding chuck system to mount their blank. Please don't wear sweater type material. Wood chips stick to this and we don't want you to ruin clothing. Wear something you don't mind getting dusty. Bring eye protection and respiratory protection if you have it or safety glasses will be provided.
Making clean cuts with a hand plane is easy – if you have your plane set up properly. Join us as we go over how to dial it in for the right cut.
