Principles of Bowl Turning

What a perfect gift - a bowl that you make yourself and fill with snacks. We will show you how to shape and turn a lovely bowl. Learn the dynamics of wood shrinkage; the parts, proper use, differences, advantages and disadvantages of the fingernail versus regular grind bowl gouge; methods of mounting material to the lathe, safety issues, turning speed, and the safe use of a bowl gouge. Fundamentals of Finishing

Sunday, September 14, 10 AM - 4 PM

What was originally two classes is now one. This class is an information filled journey through finishing. The morning of the class will be a lecture covering safety, the science of wood and finishes, and the differences between finishes. The afternoon will be hands-on, so be prepared to get a little messy. You’ll be learning proper sanding techniques, how to strip old finishes, applying different finishes and finally, spray techniques.

Basic Cabinet Making

Part 1: Saturday, September 20, 10 AM - 5 PM

Part 2: Sunday, September 21, 10 AM - 5 PM

Learn to make basic cabinets for the kitchen, bathroom or shop in this two-day class. Bob will discuss all aspects of cabinet making such as design, layout, and building the carcass. Bob will teach you how to use the pocket hole jig for joining face frames, and for joining the carcasses of the cabinets. You will make a shelf and then use a jig for drilling shelf pin holes. The router table, table saw, jointer, sander, and planer will all be used. During the class, you will make and then take home a 2' x 2' cabinet.
