Intro to Chip Carving

Chip carving is a unique and beautiful style of woodcarving. What looks intricate and complicated can be learned in a few hours using only a knife. From simple modern geometric patterns to the complex old-world style, this class will teach you the basics including how to apply a pattern to the wood, holding the knife correctly, and staining or waxing your finished project. Have you thought about turning a beautiful project on the lathe? Now you can, in this class we will turn a bowl. This will introduce you to end grain, as well as side grain and the challenges they bring. Louis will teach you the various parts of the lathe, proper safety, turning techniques, and a ton of useful tips. Finally, you will learn the various styles of finishing for your project.
