In this demonstration class, the instructor will cover sealers, stains, dyes, and hand applied finishes. They will focus on various types of topcoats both water borne and solvent based, as well as some spray finishes. Proper sanding techniques will also be addressed. Each student is responsible for supplying their own safety glasses, hearing protection, notebook, and pencil.
This is one of our more advanced bowl turning classes. We will discuss, in detail, how to harvest your own wood along with best practices in logging, storing and understanding where the bowl and platter blanks are in the log. You will learn advanced tool techniques, how to keep the bark on the blank using CA adhesives, elements of design, form and function and different bowl mounting techniques. You will also learn how to keeping the wings of the bowl the same thickness and how to keep the wings aligned with each other. Each student is responsible for supplying their own eye protection, dust mask, face shield, notebook, 1/2in and 3/8in bowl gouge, round scraper, parting tool. Routers can be intimidating. In this hands-on class, students will learn how to safely use this versatile tool for creating decorative edges, cutting grooves and dadoes, and template routing among other techniques. Bit selection and router accessories will also be covered. Each student is responsible for supplying their own router, any router bits you own, hearing protection and safety glasses.
