You've turned a bowl, but have you ever turned a platter? This class will show you how to expand your running repertoire with this classic form. The student will be shown how to best achieve a flawless finish and how to add unique embellishments to make this more than just a utilitarian turning. Students will also be shown how to create a simple display stand from the platter blank cutoffs.
During this very hands-on class, everyone will handle and learn the use of many tools that are not typically used by woodworkers - tools that will elevate the accuracy of set-ups and measuring down to thousands of an inch! Tools will be available to be handled, and each tool will be demonstrated, using shop machinery where appropriate. Questions and answer format will be used with interaction among students encouraged. Tooling on Woodcraft store shelves can be bought back into the classroom for exploration and discussion.
