Want to learn to work with wood, but don’t know where to start? This class is designed give hands-on experience with all major woodworking tools including the table saw, jointer, planer, drill press, and a variety of hand power tools. Participants will complete two projects designed to teach practical use of the tools. Upon completion, you’ll feel confident enough to not only use all of these tools, but to make wise purchases of your own tools. Attendance is mandatory for the first session, and a material/supply fee of $150 is due at the first class, paid directly to the instructor. All you need to bring is your creativity!

Big Cutting Board

Part 1: Sunday, May 4, 10 AM - 2 PM

Part 2: Sunday, May 11, 10 AM - 2 PM

Want to have a Big Board to hold your full packer brisket or prime rib? In this three-part class we'll design, construct and finish a 24" x 19" x 1.75" hardwood cutting board. You'll select from walnut, maple, cherry and padauk to construct your custom board. In the first class we'll cover design, layout and discuss the unique construction challenges of big boards. In the second class we'll prep and glue up our boards. Sanding, finishing and adding a juice groove, if desired, will complete our third session. Stop by and check out the finished Big Board Bob constructed. The retail value of the Big Board is over $550.00! Class signup must occur at least one week prior to first session.

Dovetails with Shaper Origin

Wednesday, May 14, 12 PM - 4 PM

In this hands-on class, participants will learn how to use the Shaper Origin, a portable CNC router, to create precision dovetail joints. The class covers the basics of setting up the Shaper Origin, selecting the appropriate bit, and designing dovetail joints with accuracy. Students will explore how the Shaper Origin's real-time guidance system ensures precise cuts, making it an ideal tool for creating strong, decorative dovetail joints for woodworking projects. Whether you're a novice or an experienced woodworker, this class will provide the skills and confidence to incorporate dovetails into your work with professional-level results. The class also covers troubleshooting tips and techniques to ensure smooth and successful joinery.
