Scroll Saw Basics

If you have been looking to get started in woodworking, the scroll saw is just the ticket. The scroll saw is a quiet and easy-to-use machine that will produce a wide variety of great projects. It can be used for creating fine, complex shapes and patterns such as fretwork, marquetry, intarsia, and inlay. This workshop is project oriented - designed for beginners just getting started or woodworkers wishing to expand their knowledge and skill level. Topics include blade selection, tension, pattern use, piercing, speeds, feed rates and cutting techniques. We will discuss scroll saw features, types, and what to look for when choosing a scroll saw. The goal for this workshop is for each student to have fun with woodworking, go home with a completed project and the inspiration to try more on their own.

Advanced Hand Planes

Part 1: Tuesday, August 26, 5:30 PM - 9 PM

Part 2: Thursday, August 28, 5:30 PM - 9 PM

If you’re ready to take your hand plane skills to the next level, this class is for you. In just two evenings, you will plane and shave your way to a handmade fireside stool. This class will focus on planing on an angle and proper use of a spokeshave to round the stool legs. The class: Hand Plane Basics is a prerequisite for this course.

Sharpening 101

Sharpening is an essential skill for all woodworkers, gardeners, metalworkers, chefs, and homeowners alike. Join Woodcraft as we spend an evening getting hands on to learn the basics of sharpening all manner of tools, including bench chisels, carving chisels, plane blades, card scrapers, drill bits, router bits, knives, scissors, shovels, and more! Class participants are encouraged to bring their own tools to work on and discuss sharpening strategies with the rest of the class. Included in the class tuition is the book "Sharpening: A Woodworker’s Guide" by Randall A. Maxey so you can continue your sharpening journey at home.
