Fine Furniture Making 101: Wall Cabinet

Our Fine Furniture Series is designed to help students gain confidence in their ability to create beautiful pieces of furniture that will last for generations. While the series does incorporate power tools, it focuses on developing hand tool skills, to include sharpening and using smoothing planes, bench chisels, and card scrapers. In this particular session, students will spend four days honing their skills by building an heirloom quality wall cabinet using traditional casework techniques. Highlights of the class include: sharpening, tuning, and using hand planes; dimensioning and smoothing lumber; creating sliding dovetail, dado, shiplap, and rabbeted joinery; making and applying cove and cockbead molding; making a raised panel door; and mortising for hinges. With a smaller class size, students can be confident they will receive personalized instruction as they tackle the project and create their masterpiece. OPTIONAL UPGRADE: Students can upgrade their primary wood to Walnut for an additional $100 (due at the time of registration).

Bowl Turning 101: Traditional Tools

Sunday, October 5, 10 AM - 5 PM

This class is for those who want to learn how to use the lathe to turn blocks of wood into beautiful bowls! The class will begin with a review of lathe safety before beginning the hands-on portion of selecting and sharpening turning tools, mounting blanks to the lathe, turning and sanding techniques, and applying a food safe finish. Students will leave with a better understanding of wood turning and a completed bowl.

Advanced Ornament Turning: Angels and Nutcrackers

Monday, October 6, 6 PM - 9 PM

In this Holiday Ornament Class, students will “Learn to Turn” Christmas Angels and Holiday Nutcrackers. These traditional Christmas ornaments can be customized so that no two are alike. Friends and Family will be amazed at your skills and creativity. Students will learn to use a variety of turning tools and techniques as they expand their wood turning skills. Once you make these beautiful ornaments – there’s no turning back from being a Wood Turner.
