Lidded Jewelry Box

Monday, July 21, 9:30 AM - 4:30 PM

Learning how to build a Lidded Box is a great introduction to box making. The skills used to cut accurate miters will be explained in detail as students make their own box. The joints will be reinforced with splines using accenting wood to add strength and beauty. You will be using a variety of tools to accomplish this including the Table Saw, Router, Drum Sander and various hand tools. We will be using hardwoods to complete this project and you can take it home to apply the final finish. Different finishing techniques will be discussed in the class.

Are you interested in learning the steps to make a Resin Casting for the lathe? During this class we will cover the following steps; mixing the resin using a gram scale, mixing colorants (dyes or poweders), filling molds, and proper usage of a pressure pot. Would you like to learn to use a CNC? We will be using the software to actually create a personalized carved sign during the class that one lucky participant will get to take home! The class will focus on learning the basics of using the software and using the actual machine. The instructor has years of experience so this is your opportunity to bypass common mistakes beginners often make. It is recommended, but not required, that you have a laptop. Router Basics

During this hands-on class students will learn about the different types of routers, router bits, maintenance procedures, and safety tips. After some open discussion about how a router can be an asset in your shop, you will move into actual operation. It is time for a few skill drills and learn to apply proper techniques to get a smooth profile on your project. Router Table Basics

During this class students will learn how a router table can be a valuable asset in the shop. This is a hands-on class where you will learn proper safety techniques, set-up, bit selection, and maintenance of your router table. If you have ever thought about making your own custom moulding/trim then this class is a must. In fact, after some open discussion you will learn how a couple of bits can produce a variety of profiles. Then you will actually mill a custom piece of moulding/trim. Turning Segmented Bowls

Friday, October 24, 9:30 AM - 4:30 PM

In this class, Louis will cover all of the aspects of turning a segmented bowl. Included in the class will be instruction on the difference between stacking segmented rings, making staves and wood lamination. You will learn the mathematics of design, cutting, and glue up. Using the table saw Louis will cover the various methods of cutting segments which will be glued into segment rings. At the end of the class, you will have a segmented bowl to turn. Table Saw Basics

Saturday, October 25, 9 AM - 12 PM

In this class the student will learn the fundamentals of using the table saw. Safety will be stressed. You will learn the various parts of the table saw, various types of table saws and their uses. You will also learn basic cutting operations and will make the cuts in a hands-on process. Safety will be an important part of the class. Learn how to get the best performance from a truly versatile machine. We will demonstrate proper blade tracking setup, wheel alignment, and safety for your bandsaw. Resin Casting Basics

Monday, October 27, 9:30 AM - 2 PM

Are you interested in learning the steps to make a Resin Casting for the lathe? During this class we will cover the following steps; mixing the resin using a gram scale, mixing colorants (dyes or poweders), filling molds, and proper usage of a pressure pot. We will discuss differernt types of molds, materials to make a mold, materials to put in the mold, and ways to attach your casting to a lathe. Now it is time to cast your own project. Woodshop 101 at Night

Part 1: Wednesday, October 29, 5:30 PM - 8:30 PM

Looking to get started in woodworking but not sure where to begin? This is the class for you! Louis will introduce you to the most common tools in the shop and assure you understand how to operate each of them safely. You will also learn the essentials about wood grain and movement as you move through the milling process. Students will be paired up during the class, and will leave with a cutting/serving board that will be a joy to show off. This is a hands-on class so come ready to get dirty, have some fun, and create something beautiful!! This is a two session night class. Intro To The Lathe

Have you thought about turning a beautiful project on the lathe? Now you can, in this class we will turn a bowl. This will introduce you to end grain, as well as side grain and the challenges they bring. Louis will teach you the various parts of the lathe, proper safety, turning techniques, and a ton of useful tips. Finally, you will learn the various styles of finishing for your project.
