This class can teach someone new to the lathe how to make a bowl and can help an intermediate student refine their skills. Topics that will be covered in class: proper tool rest set up, proper approach and angle for efficient cutting, differences between the three different cutters (rougher, finisher and detail), scraping, shear cutting and sharpening. Students will practice the cuts appropriate for shaping and smoothing the inside and outside using traditional tools. Students will turn a bowl in this class. At the end of the class students should be able to turn a bowl on their own. Students are encouraged, although not required, to bring their own tools for an easier transition of skills from class to your own shop.
Students will start by learning about proper proportions. Then you will mount a blank in the chuck, rough out the blank and begin hollowing the end grain. Students will then make a lidded box by hollowing the box and lid, fitting them together, and turning away the mounting tenons. Safety is emphasized while students sharpen the bowl gouge and scraper, mount the wood, and make the end grain hollowing cuts. After this class, students should be able to make a lidded box on their own. If you have turning tools, you are encouraged to bring them- if not, we have tools available.

In this class student will make a small panel using the Asanoha design. We will begin by cutting out the Kumiko strips. Next, we will create a grid on the table saw using a sled. We will then hand cut the infill pieces using two different Kumiko jigs to create the Asonoha pattern. Students will be shown how to make and use the different jigs. NOTE the Kumiko infill jigs will be available for sale if interested.
Make 3 Darts! The instructor will give you hands on instruction step by step to make 1 Dart. Then he will let you repeat those steps to commit them to memory while being available to help as needed while you make a total of 3 darts. Making 3 darts back to back is a great way to get you comfortable enough to go home and make more on your own!

In this class you will get hands on practice cutting the wood on the table saw, gluing and clamping, sanding with a drum and orbital sander and applying a food safe finish. Students will learn how to do Double Bevel Marquetry using the Scroll saw. Student will learn how to transfer the pattern to the veneers and then cut out their design to get a precise cut with no gaps.
Learn how to cast a knife handle, After a hour break, turn your blank into a handle onto a knife. You will use a pressure pot, a bandsaw, sanders and other small hand tools. Polish up and take it home.
Come make a customized, full size lazy susan. You will choose the wood/woods to put togeter and bring your style to life. Learn to use a table saw, band saw, router and sander.
In this course the student will learn to identify the different types of scroll saws and blades while gaining an understanding of which blade is used for which material. The student will also learn the basic operating principles of the scroll saw including changing blade tension, blade speed, and table angle. Learning proper safety including basic shop safety, personal safety, and safe procedures using the scroll saw will be stressed. This is a hands on class where the student will learn how to make different types of cuts and make some simple projects that can be taken home.

Tim, the designer of this pattern, will teach you how to attach a pattern, blade selection, cutting techniques, sanding techniques, finally you will color it with a quick drying yellow dye so you can take it with you that day.

Use a hand router to cut out 4 puzzle pieces using a template. We will use a palm router, sanders and finish. We will go over router safety and make a fun charcuterie board to show off to your friends and family.
