An offset bowl (pictured below) requires the student to have a significant amount of experience with bowl turning. Students will start with a 7x3 rounded blank and learn how to mount and turn to create a one of a kind bowl. Segmented wood turning is an art form with very few limitations. By combining different components, you can create just about any different shape or size and by arranging different wood species, you can create just about any type of surface design. Two of the main benefits of segmented turning are 1. Using less wood to create a bowl and 2. NO end grain turning. Many designs require innovative assembly solutions, much like puzzle solving; and just like the joy of solving a puzzle, there is great joy in segmented turning.
