Intarsia Basics

with Jeff Campbell

Saturday, November 1, 2025, 9:30 AM - 3:30 PM

Intarsia is a scrollsaw technique whereby you cut different species of wood into varied shapes to create a mosaic like picture. Each piece is sanded and formed to give the appearance of depth. Segmentation offers all of the same cutting and shaping skills of intarsia, but uses only one species of wood which is then stained or painted to achieve the colors you desire. In this class you will be doing segmentation to acquire the cutting and shaping skills needed for intarsia. When you are finished with this class you will have a better understanding of the skills needed to do an intarsia piece.

The lap joint is one of the easiest and most used joints in woodworking. Students will make 2 joints in the class, a standard half lap and then a mitered half lap for aesthetic and strength.
