Cover basic lathe operation, safety, tool use, sharpening, as well as five practice exercises covering spindle and bowl work. This class is a must take for any beginning turner! You will learn how to safely and effectively turn and give you the foundation to grow your own skill.
This date night class is perfect for couples wanting to do something different, fun, and you might just learn a new skill or two while you're at it. Plus, you'll leave with a gorgeous cutting board that you can brag to your friends and family that you two made yourselves! Although we'll be using a precut kit, we'll discuss the techniques involved in dimensioning and cutting to size so you can create your own custom cutting boards at home after the class. We'll be using a thickness planer, orbital sander, and depending on your preference maybe even a trim router to round those sharp edges. Then, we'll finish the cutting board with food safe mineral oil or danish oil and we'll see the wood's natural colors blossom. We'll have some pizza to share while we wait for the glue to dry so please bring along any non-alcoholic beverage of your choice (although we will have ample Culligan water or coffee for free on hand).
