Router Basics

You've just purchased a router and some bits. It's a versatile machine that can be used in a vast assortment of woodworking operations. Before you plunge into router woodworking, come join Gus in learning the basics you should know that will make your endeavors safer, easier and altogether more satisfying. We'll differentiate between fixed and plunge base routers, motor size, collet size and simplify the types of routers. In this "hands on" class there will be exercises using a few of the most common bits such as a round over, edge forming, straight cutting and even a dado. The router table will be used and there will be discussion of the differences between hand-held and table operations. Care and maintenance of routers will be covered. Bring any and all questions as well as your router to the class. Join in the fun and begin your router adventure.

Turn A Pen

Learning the process of pen turning can be a long, tedious process full of missteps and mistakes. Why not take the frustration out of the equation? In this class you will create a beautiful pen that you will love to show off and use on a daily basis. The instructor will select the kit you use, but you will make it your own by selecting the wood blank. Dark or light wood. Come join us, and create a unique, one-of-a-kind pen! It makes a wonderful gift too!!

Spoon Carving 101

3D Cutting Board '"Chevron"

This beginner- friendly class allows students to create a stunning 3D Chevron cutting board. Participants will work with walnut and maple wood with step by step guidance on how to safely use essential shop tools needed for this project. ( Table saw, jointer, drum sander etc.) In the class the students will learn: Basic shop safety and tool handing, how to measure and cut wood at simple angles, glue-up techniques, sanding and applying a food safe finish.

Beginner's Lathe Class

This is a hands on class that will introduce you to the basics of woodturning. The focus will be on how to safely use a lathe while having fun. You will learn how secure stock to the lathe as well as the basic parts of the lathe. Curtis will teach you how to use spindle gouges, scrapers, bowl gouges, parting tools, chucks and more. Basic Tool Sharpening will also be introduced. Come join Curtis and have some fun on the Lathe!

Scroll Saw Basics

If you are new to scroll saw work, this is the class for you. Learn the fundamentals of operating and mastering your scroll saw. We will start with basic functions, inserting and removing saw blades, working with piercings, and practicing cut patterns to build confidence and proficiency. Participants will be leaving the class with a completed wavy-pattern fruit bowl as well as all the materials to complete an additional bowl on the scroll saw. Come join the fun!

From forest to finished lumber, understanding the full journey of wood is essential for any woodworker. In this workshop, Brandon Berdoll will guide students through the entire process of transforming a standing tree into a kiln-dried, surfaced slab or lumber that is flat, consistent in thickness, and ready for woodworking projects. Students will learn how a good sawyer: • Selects logs with desirable characteristics for furniture and fine woodworking • Properly saws and processes logs to maximize yield and quality • Dries wood efficiently, including kiln drying and monitoring moisture content • Flattens and planes lumber to uniform thickness for ready-to-use boards • Stores kiln-dried lumber correctly to prevent warping or damage The workshop emphasizes both practical techniques and design considerations, helping students understand how early decisions in log selection and milling affect the final usability and aesthetic of the wood. Power Sanding Techniques

Achieving a flawless finish on wood begins with mastering the art of sanding. In this workshop, Erich Elfeldt will guide students through the practical techniques and considerations necessary to get the best results using a variety of power sanders. Students will learn how to: • Properly use different types of power sanders to achieve smooth, consistent surfaces • Clean between grit changes to prevent scratches and cross-contamination • Understand how dust collection affects sanding efficiency and finish quality • Use raking light to detect imperfections and subtle surface flaws • Raise the grain to achieve a smoother finish • Sculpt and sand live edges • Level epoxy fills and inlays • Some hand-sanding techniques such as easing edges and sanding between finish coats Through demonstrations and hands-on guidance, students will gain confidence in selecting the right sander for the task, managing sanding workflow, and preparing wood surfaces for finishing. Table Saw Basics

When setting up a new workshop, the first big purchase for most people is a Tablesaw. There are 3 different categories of saws, beginning with the benchtop, contractor and the full size cabinet saw. With its flat, circular spinning blade, the tablesaw can make all sorts of cuts, among them grooves, dadoes, rabbets, ripcuts, crosscuts and a variety of other woodworking joints. A tablesaw is usually only as good as the fence system it employs as well as an accurate miter gauge. As most everyone knows, safety is a prime concern when using power equipment, especially tablesaws. SAWSTOP has taken some of the guesswork out of that arena but it still needs to be a focus of tablesaw education. Come join in as we take you through the in's and out's of this hardworking tool and show you how you can learn to use this investment in time and money to build some beautiful projects.

The most important criterion for an indoor/outdoor chair is that it be comfortable for relaxing, reading and conversing in a study or garden setting. We decided to take a chair that is well known for comfort, relaxation and traditional adirondack design and get outside the box. Our creation is a version that is easier to get in and out of. To add some character we put some playful curves and "Rolled" the arms to increase the comfort. A similar version of this chair can be seen in the April issue of Fine Woodworking magazine appropriately called "Adirondack with a Twist." The back of our chair will be a bit taller and to make the chair easier to get out of the seat will also be higher. The wide curved arms make a fantastic visual statement as well as provide structural integrity. They are made from eight, 1/8" thick laminations and this adds the final touches to a uniquely elegant chair.
