Apollo HVLP-Woodcraft Partnership Includes Educational Focus
Understanding how a tool works is the key to ensuring its optimum performance. With that in mind, Apollo HVLP International, Inc, included an educational component in its new relationship with Woodcraft Supply, LLC.
Woodcraft of Dayton, Ohio, show off the new sprayer system, featuring (left to right) employee and woodworker Dick Reese, Store Manager Jim Drayer, and Franchisee Owner Allen Ryan.
Apollo, the leader in HVLP (High-Volume, Low-Pressure) technology, and Woodcraft, the industry leader in providing top quality products, educational opportunities and one-on-one guidance to woodworkers of all skill levels, recently became retail partners. Woodcraft will sell Apollo products at 24 retail stores, in its catalog and online at woodcraft.com. Apollo will offer in-store staff training in HVLP technology and the use of its sprayers at the participating Woodcraft stores, as well as provide support for Woodcraft’s technical and phone staffs.
In addition to Apollo’s regular products, featuring the 835 Power Series 3 Stage Turbine with 7500QT Atomizer Quick Release Cup Gun, Item #152653, and the 1035 Power Series 4 Stage Turbine with 7500QT Atomizer Quick Release Cup Gun, Item #152654 , two accessory packages designed specifically for woodworkers will be available exclusively at Woodcraft.
“Woodcraft is pleased to partner with Apollo to offer their innovative products to our customers and to make their considerable HVLP expertise available to our store personnel and other staff, which will in turn benefit our customers,” Woodcraft President Jeff Forbes said.
Apollo was the major influence in making HVLP the dominant spray technology today, according to finishing expert Bob Flexner in an article on Apollo’s Web site. In 1966, Apollo took the Turbo Spray System that borrowed its blower-style motor from the vacuum cleaner industry, and improved the technology to a professional level. Apollo’s market was small at first, while compressed air technology remained popular, but Flexner said the large amount of finish exhausted into the air in the latter process became an issue during the 1970s’ push for a cleaner environment. In 1982 Apollo opened an office in Vista, California (near Los Angeles), and two years later took an historic step by submitting independent test results to the South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD), an environmental group. The district confirmed that the Apollo spray and turbine system offered less Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) to be oversprayed in the air and named the process high-volume, low-pressure, giving it the HVLP acronym. According to Flexner, two years later the SCAQMD began requiring the use of HVLP or other technology with a 65% transfer efficiency—double that of traditional high-pressure technology—thus creating a market for HVLP beyond just reducing wasted finish.
Since then Apollo has remained committed to producing highly innovative low overspray HVLP products for spray finishing at their state-of-the-art factory in Vista, using the latest techniques and sophisticated HVLP technology, while working closely with the coatings industry.
